Last August 2023, I changed the original black ink cartridge that came with my OfficeJet Pro 8610 printer because it was depleted. There was no need to change the color cartridges because they were half full. However, when I inserted a new and genuine HP950 XL cartridge (which I had in stock), the printer did not recognize it and indicated that either the cartridge or printer had a defect. After following the recommended troubleshooting guidelines issued by HP, the cartridge was still not being recognized and I gave up trying after a few fruitless days.
A few days ago, I decided to make another attempt to get the printer to work, so I bought a new 950XL cartridge from Amazon. Same problem!! Moreover, all the color cartridges were inexplicably depleted even though I was not able to print in the interim. And to compound the issue, the new color cartridges I inserted were also not recognized by the printer as genuine HP products. Note, I had similar cartridge-issues with my previous printer - OficeJet 6700.
Incidentally, I read a similar post made in 2016 on this forum, where the person said that HP was aware of this problem with certain printers but did not provide a fix to remedy it.
Short of buying a new printer (and it will definitely not be an HP model), can anyone provide guidance on what can be done to fix this ussue? Would greatly appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
