I have an error on my printer saying Missing or Failed Printhead. The printhead appears to be missing, not detected or incorrectly installed. I have tried switching the device on & off, unplugging the power source and removing and reinstalling the printhead in different orders but with no success. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Hi @TheIgloo ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the "Missing or Failed Printhead" error on the HP Officejet Pro 8620 can be quite frustrating.
Here are a few additional steps you can try to resolve this issue:
1. Clean the Printhead Contacts
Sometimes, the issue is caused by dirty or corroded contacts on the printhead. To clean the contacts:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the printer to access the printhead.
- Remove the printhead carefully.
- Use a lint-free cloth or a coffee filter lightly moistened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the printhead and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the printhead.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
A hard reset can sometimes clear errors:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- While the printer is off, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Release the power button and plug the printer back in.
- Turn the printer on.
3. Update Printer Firmware
An outdated firmware version may cause compatibility issues:
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Search for your printer model (HP Officejet Pro 8620).
- Download and install the latest firmware update for your printer.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.
4. Reinstall the Printhead
Ensure the printhead is seated correctly:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the printer to access the printhead.
- Remove the printhead and the ink cartridges.
- Reinstall the printhead, making sure it is securely seated.
- Reinstall the ink cartridges.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
5. Check for Printer Driver Issues
Ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed:
- Go to the HP Support website.
- Search for your printer model (HP Officejet Pro 8620).
- Download and install the latest drivers for Windows 10 (64-bit).
6. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings
Resetting the printer to its factory settings can sometimes resolve issues:
- On the printer's control panel, touch the Setup icon (usually a wrench or gear icon).
- Navigate to Printer Maintenance or Service.
- Select Restore Factory Defaults.
- Confirm the reset.
