Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My OfficeJet Pro 8710 will print #10 envelopes but for some reason the font doesn't print clearly. I'm using Microsoft Word and I've tried to print both with custom sizing and using the envelope feature but in both cases the font is not clear, even when using different fonts. I used to print envelopes this way all the time but recently the font has been very pixelated and with certain letters ending up illegible. It prints regular paper fine, including cardstock and 3x5  index cards but it seems to really struggle with the envelopes. The drivers are all up to date. Is there any way to fix this?

Welcome to the HP Community.

Updates / Edits - Add "Reload printer software" section near the end of the message.

The printer rollers might need to be cleaned.

Use this guide:

An 'Out of Paper' error displays, printer does not pick paper

Assuming the printer can print everything else,

Standard #10 envelopes do usually print without having to do anything special except make sure the printer is aware of the paper size and type (EWS can also be used to alert the printer to the paper size / type).

Example - Retain / Modify (Edit) / Check Paper Size & Type - Tray and Paper Management

What else?

Not sure...

The printer might be showing signs of wear.  That said, it is true that standard envelopes are not much thicker than regular paper and certainly not any thicker than an Index card.

You might want to run the printer through the Print Quality checks.

Why?  The quality checks might help you determine whether the printer is actually healthy and ready to print.

For those reading:  "The way it usually works" - FYI

General Example - Word > Mailings > Envelopes - #10 envelope

What else?

If you believe the printer is "ready to print" (passes quality checks),

If the Word > Mailings > Procedure just won't work for some (any) reason,

Try / Consider

Create a Word Document in the shape and size of the envelope and print that.

Optional >> Try setting the paper type to "thick" or something other than plain paper.

Example - Word > Manual Envelope Document - #10

What else?

Not as likely, perhaps, worth a look...

If you have not done so, Try / Consider:

Uninstall the printer software

Restart the computer

Install a fresh copy of the Full Feature Software / full driver printer software.

Your printer software installation package
