Hp OfficeJet Pro 8100
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I have a Hp OfficeJet Pro 8100 with bad printerquality and trobles with duplex unit.

Hower this seems at first site a nice printer, but I may by old school. But I´ve never had this issues with my older Hp printers with fixed head printers (Manual adjustment).

Honestly I don´t know how the engineers at Hp Is up to when they make all this printers, but now mater my personal opinion about this. It seems to me that in now days many people have a overfaith to that techology never fails.

However I´ve never used other than Hp original Ink in this printer.

In the beginning the printer printed good and sharp. But the more I´ve printed with this type of printer the poorer my prints became.

However regular text documents are always sharp, but graphiics are not.

All of my images are divided into small fragments-lines every cm as the printer readed in the image. It´s quite annoying and looks like an alcohilic on his worst addiction tried to paint a picture.

I´ve also discovered that even if the testpages are fine. But as a dissapointment the printer prints poor graphics.

But however I´ve tried to print on my older Win 7 ,and at a modern with Win10. It´s the same.

It doesn´t matter what type of document I´m trying to print. Ex a regular Word doc,an pdf-file or a jpg(in photoshop).

But the more I print adjustment pages the poorer images I get. So my conclution is that it´s no use to waste ink/paper and money at this becuse it will always make everything worse.

At the other side I don´t know if this is a issue related to hardware (printerhead, ink,CPU)or a issue related to poor drivers. I have basic drivers, but according to Hp Support it should´t bother which one.

This printer also have Hp-real time technology. Can it be this that causes my problems with poor print quality??

However when I print something with real time On the images are catastrophical.

At the other side I have the latest drivers/firmware.

I also dispach some examples that describes my issues. Note! All images printed at Normal 600*600 dpi, with Real time off.

But acording to my issues to duplex unit. It doesn´t matter which type of adjustment I chooes. The result are always the same.

Ex.If I print a 2 side doc(portrait) the first page is right, but the last page comes out as up side down( I have to manualy swich paper to read it)

As a same example but with more than 4 pages. Pages 1 and 3 are fine, but 2 and 4 are not.

It doesn´t matter if it´s portrait or landscape. The result is the same.

So I´ve given up and print multipel pages manualy.Exempel1.jpgTestDiagSid1.jpgExempel2kopia.jpg

@Tompa1,

Good day. Thank you for reaching out to the Hp support forums. I will be happy to assist you here. Good presentation of the issue. Kudos to you for that.

  • Did this happen after a recent printer softwWindowsWIndows update?
  • DId you try making photocopies in color directly from the printer and check if the copy correctly.

Let's try these steps:

Here comes another example that got lost in my previous tread.

I don´t know if there is possible to se all the horisontaly gaps. But however regular text documents are 100%(readable),but the issue is when I have graphics in my document.

Not.

This example is printed at Normal Resolution 600*600 dpi Color with HP Real time tech OFF. And ofcourse with Original Hp ink.Exempel2kopia.jpg

@Tompa1,

I read your quick response. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. I would like to know some more information in this regard to assist you better.

Please check if you can make photocopies of images in color directly from the printer without any communication from the computer. If it does not make clear color copies then the issue is with the printer or it's cartridge and is not software related. You could update the firmware then and follow directions from my earlier post to troubleshoot

print quality issues. The printer could be faulty and may need to be replaced.

If it copies correctly then perform a root-level uninstallation and reinstallation of the printer drivers by following these steps:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, in the control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Then download the latest full feature driver from  https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-pro-8100-eprinter-series-n81...   and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

This should fix the issue.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

This printer is configrated as a local USB-printer,there fore network status is off,and ohter options related to a network printer. Since I´ve newer knew how to configure this printer and always used a basic driver to this printer all of the factory settings are the same. But however I´ve made a hard rest of this printer.

I´m also curious about how to make photocopies directly from this printer. What I think your´re up to is if this printer have pictbridge support. Answer= NO. But I mayby missunderstood.
