Things were printing fine a week ago. Today the print job starts but stalls. Here are the specifics:

(I did a few searches, and didnt find a similar issue that was resolved)

* Printer does connect via wireless, says Available.

* Paper advances (feeds) to print position (single line sample Word doc)- says Printing, and power button blinks (but nothing).

* There appears to be no paper jam, just partial page feeding, then the paper stalls

* The print queue on the PC does increment once submitted, and clears when communicated to the printer

* Shutting down, was problematic, but I somehow have remedied that. It was just stalling on the display before.

* Cancelling the print function (using X button) does say print cancelled, but again,  just stalls

I have:

1. Uninstalled the printer, reinstalled

2. Reloaded the print driver

3. Ran the Print Dr successfully

4. Unplugged the printer several times

5. Rebooted the PC

So, I respectfully await a remedy that could help here. Thank you in advance.

@oldnslo

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Betty, thanks for the reply. I was able to get partway there before the process stalled. Step 9 is where things stopped.

Printers are gone from this screen:

However, this proved problematic, and I cant seem to get past it. :

Clicking on OK , get me back to this (top portion of the screen shot) with the HP OJ 4500 still showing:

Where might I go next?

UPDATE:

In retrying this, I went to Control panel > Printers  and was able to remove the HP OJ 4500. After the required reboot it was still there. A second round of this did prove successul. I am now onto step #14, but I see these 3 folders.:

oldnslo_0-1640271876414.png

After opening them and browsing around, I didnt quickly see anything that was HP OJ 4500 oriented. Most of these are cryptically named.

Next steps please.  🙂

Still no joy. I am able to progress through all 15, however:

1. I get this device status message

oldnslo_0-1640665601336.png

2. And before ANY driver updates, and after ALL the device deletes, file removal etc, when the printer is first powered up, it still feeds a half page and stops. It does say ready on on the printer status.

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

I got to this point:

oldnslo_0-1641180770188.png

and despite going through the list 4 separate times, with all HP name variants, I was able to see probably 100 or more HP printers, and lots of HP Officejets, but not the 4500 .

On the link to the HP printer setup support page you sent, I did follow this:

oldnslo_1-1641180970127.png

However, the wireless light did not flash. It seems to be either on or off. There is no secondary function when held down. (either in off or on mode).

I'd like to continue to solve this.

You can try using any other Printer drivers for eg a deskjet printer.

Let me know if this helps.

Sorry for the delay, life happens...eh?

1. I've restarted the whole root uninstall process

2. I'm at the point of seeing my printer in the settings, Its available to print but just stalls. (no change from the original issue)

3. Its further complicated by the somewhat confusing HP instructions of asking me to get the installer (again).

I get this (which I believe to be a good sign):

oldnslo_0-1643234783242.png

Then this (why am I being asked to install again?):

oldnslo_1-1643234814171.png

And on the resulting page (view the lower portion of this screen) What is the purpose of the third "X" on the choice screen. Its really just to select the Scan Dr. Only one choice is allowed, yet it seems like two choices.

oldnslo_2-1643234865057.png

4. I seem to now have two printer icons, even tho the right side one is the default.

oldnslo_3-1643235035413.png

5. The end result, is that a single one sentence print job gets sent to the printer:

oldnslo_4-1643235089224.png

..and the printer says "Printing...." but just stalls there. Thus, no change from the start of this.

Help please?
