Officejet 5255
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Officejet 5255 worked flawlessly until a Windows update. I have tried everything I can. The printer says it has been installed successfully according to HP's installation software, but in the HP Smart App the Installation Status states it is not installed. HP Smart states that the status is ready and all the other fields list that the printer is connected. Additionally, an error stating a door is open continues to display even though all of the doors and trays are firmly closed. This messaged displayed one day even though none of the doors or trays had been opened.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are not able to print from your PC. I'd be happy to assist you.

 

Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

 

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

 

Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

 

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

 

Try reinstalling the HP Smart app and check if that helps.

Did not solve the problem.

 I unplugged from the printer, waited and plugged it back in (I always plug it directly into the wall outlet).

The printer restarted and I was able to make a copy.

The printer still displayed the Installation Status as Not Installed in the HP Smart app.

Minutes later, without opening any door or cover, an error appeared on the screen that read Door Open.

@Bishop432, that's unfortunate.

 

Let us reset the printer to its factory settings to resolve this issue.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
