Hello, I have had the same frustrating problem with my 6600, also with Windows 8. Prints fine from my Macs.
I tried all the same things you did to resolve the issue, including all the run around that HP has suggested.
Have you been able to find any resolution?

Hey guys, I agree with all of you - I have a perfectly great Windows 7 laptop that has never, since I first installed the printer, gone offline. Of course, every other laptop in the house that has Windows 8 is a complete FAIL. Why can HP not put out a fix? This is so irritating! Everyone in my family is utterly irritated that we are even thinking of switching to Canon.

It's not windows it's the printer, I use Linux and it does the same thing, I have tried every combination to set this thing up and no matter what after a few hours it sleeps the sleep of death.
hp patch the firmware and stop blaming any particular operating system, we aren't dummies here take responsibiltiy for your equipment.
this may force me to try someone elses printers, I have two kids that need reliable printing, not fixes that don't actually work.

HP really needs to come out with a fix for this issue, there are many of us having the same problem, I believe it is an issue with the printer firmware, not our computers!
I have been having the same issue as many others have for months! I found the following on the HP website and luckily "Solution One" worked for me so I could atleast print again. Although I may have just gotten lucky, I'll have to see if it works for me the next time my printer goes "offline" (which randomly happens daily).

- Press the Power button (
) to turn on the product.
- With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 15 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
- If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button (
) to turn it on.

I totally agree. I like my printer but since it doesn't work the way it's supposed to, it will be replaced. I'm tired of dealing with all the run around and not getting a fix. I've owned HP printers and computers for many years but I'll be switching to another brand.

Try this, it worked for my mother's situation
Go to your windows box, lower left hand corner of your desk top
Go to Control Panel
Hardware and Sound - "View devices and printers"
Right click on HP Officejet 6600
Click on "See Whats Printing"
Click on the word "Printer" at the top left of the box
Uncheck "Use Printer Offline"
You may need to reboot the computer.
I did not have to reboot my computer and it worked.
Good luck to all -

It does not work with Windows 8.1 since it does not have that option of offline. But in totality, HP does not acknowledge publicly that the printer has the issue. I think the message should be spread out in social media about the facts of this printer and the attitude of the company that produces.
