I have an Officejet 7310 with error codes 0x07a74dd6 and 1959:lib_barracuda.c. The printer has been powered on, but not used for a very long period of time. I have tried resetting the printer by unplugging the power cord and plugging it back into a wall socket, but the codes reappear. Would this likely be related to the age of the print cartridges?

Hi @JDS1955, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query.
Ah, the joys of printers – they work tirelessly... until they don’t 😅. It seems your OfficeJet 7310 is feeling a bit under the weather. But fear not! Let’s troubleshoot and get it back in top shape 💪.
Power Cycle the Printer
- Unplug the printer from the power source.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds to ensure the printer's internal memory resets.
- Plug the printer back into the wall socket and turn it back on.
- This basic reset may clear some temporary errors, but it seems like this didn’t work for you since the codes reappeared.
Check the Print Cartridges
- Since the printer hasn’t been used in a while, the ink cartridges may be dried up or clogged.
- Remove the cartridges and check for any signs of ink leakage or damage.
- If the cartridges are old (over 2 years or beyond the recommended shelf life), they might need to be replaced.
- Clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and the printer.
- Use a soft, lint-free cloth and gently clean the contacts of both the cartridges and the carriage area where the cartridges sit.
- Reinstall the cartridges and check if the error persists.
Check for Paper Jams
- Open the printer and inspect the paper path for any paper jams or obstructions.
- Even if the printer hasn’t been used in a while, dust or debris could cause issues.
- Carefully remove any paper from the print path.

Perform a Hard Reset
- Perform a hard reset of the printer:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the printer from the wall socket.
- Wait for 5 minutes to allow any residual power to dissipate.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Check the Printhead
- The error message “1959:lib_barracuda.c” could indicate an issue with the printhead.
- Remove the printhead from the printer.
- Clean the printhead with a soft, damp cloth to remove any dried ink that may have accumulated over time.
- Make sure the printhead is properly seated when you reinstall it.
Update the Printer Firmware
- If your printer has not been updated for a while, the error could be a result of outdated firmware.
- Visit the HP support website and download the latest firmware for your model (HP OfficeJet 7310).
- Follow the instructions on how to update the printer firmware to see if this resolves the issue.
Reset Printer Settings (Factory Reset)
- If all else fails, you might want to consider doing a factory reset of the printer.
- This will restore the printer to its original settings and may clear any persistent error codes.
- Factory reset instructions can be found in your printer’s manual or on the HP website.
With a bit of patience and some careful troubleshooting, we should have that printer humming along again 🚀.
I hope these steps help resolve the issue
