My Officejet 7510 has suddenly stopped accepting new 3rd party ink cartridges. It keeps coming up "One or more cartridges are missing or damaged" This is not just a single cartridge, but multiple cartridges from different suppliers. It has the 1829 firmware. Any ideas.

As mentioned, we have tried multiple cartridges. All new third party ones the printer rejected, old empty 3rd party ones were shown as Ok but depleted. We have finally managed to get it to print again by swapping the chips from the old cartridges, they now appear as refilled, but without ink levels showing. This is obviously a firmware issue with the printer as it happened to 8 cartridges from 2 different suppliers. Frankly we are not sure we will be using HP printers in the future.

@MarkBarl, Welcome to HP support Community!
Have you tried checking with a different ink cartridge? Does the issue persist?
Here's the thing, yes, you can refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems.
QualityLogic, one of the world's foremost quality assurance organizations, tested the performance of HP inkjet print cartridges vs. remanufactured (refilled) brands. The results: original HP inkjet print cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.
Nearly one out of every six refilled ink cartridges tested was dead on arrival or failed prematurely.
70% of refilled cartridges had some form of reliability problem.
Count on HP original ink cartridges for consistent, worry-free printing. You may think you're saving money on remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges, but in the long run, the cost of wasted time, ink, and paper can more than make up the difference.

I have the identical problem with an officejet pro 8740. I get NO help from the HP agent except to brag about how great HP cartridges are. I can dissagree from over 25 years of experience. This seems to be an attempt on the part of HIP to force people to buy their cartridges. I too will not buy HPO products in the future unless they easily solve this problem. Good luck. Paul Gans
