Hi @CBrentD,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the error message "The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed" indicates an issue with the printhead of your HP OfficeJet 7612. Since the printer is out of warranty, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 2–3 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.

2. Check the Printhead Installation

  • Open the printer's access door to expose the printhead and cartridges.
  • Remove all ink cartridges carefully.
  • Check the printhead for any visible damage or debris.
  • Reinstall the printhead:
    1. Lift the latch securing the printhead.
    2. Gently remove and then reseat the printhead.
    3. Secure the latch.

3. Clean the Electrical Contacts

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the printhead and inspect the electrical contacts (gold or copper-colored).
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean:
    • The printhead contacts.
    • The corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  • Allow them to dry completely, then reinstall.

4. Reset the Printer

  • If the error persists, perform a semi-full reset:
    • Disconnect the power cord from the printer while it’s turned on.
    • Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
    • Reconnect the power cord and power on the printer.

5. Replace the Printhead

If cleaning and reseating the printhead do not resolve the issue, the printhead may be faulty. Replacement printheads are available for purchase (HP part number CR768A for your model). You can:

  • Check with HP's parts store.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
