Officejet Pro 6830
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I realize this topic has been addressed before, but wanted to make sure I had tried everything to fix this issue. After replacing the black ink cartridge on my 6830, the printer would not print black. This held true for printing test pages, copies, and prints from the computer. We initially thought it might be a defective cartridge and tried a second one, only this one had the same issue, though would occasionally print the outlines of black prints. The diagnostic page with the second cartridge will print the grayscale test areas, but not the full black.

To attempt to fix this I have tried:

- Updating the printer firmware.

- Reinstalling the Windows drivers.

- Unplugging the printer, waiting several minutes, holding the power button to disperse charge, and turning it back on.

- Cleaning the contacts of the black cartridge.

Nothing seems to be working unfortunately.

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

Please clean the printhead

  1. Load plain white paper into the tray.

  2. On the printer control panel, swipe the display to scroll to Setup, and then touch the Setup icon .

  3. Swipe the display to scroll to Printer Maintenance, and then touch Printer Maintenance.

  4. Touch Clean Printhead.

    A test page prints.

  5. Examine the test page.

    • If the print quality is unacceptable, touch Clean Again to continue the next level of cleaning. If necessary, repeat these steps for the third cleaning cycle.

NOTE: If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes before you perform all three levels of cleaning again.

Print head cleaning was the first thing tried, and was tried several times. I've given it one more go for good measure. No changes to the test page result.

I will note that when viewing an individual cartridge and hitting the print button that prints the ink levels, the printer will print the brackets around each color in black, but will not print the black ink level or any other information that may be on that page.
