Officejet Pro 8100
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I hve been using an Officejet Pro 8100 for about four (4) years or so and recently it has stopped printing from the MAGENTA  color ink cartridge.  I have run the print head cleaning app plus the print head alignment app several times; but, to no avail.  I have also switched cartridges; also to no avail.   I have been told by local service organizations that I might just as well buy a new printer as the cost for service could be almost the same as the cost of a new printer.  If there is no practical solution for my problem, I have been looking at the OfficeJet Pro 8210 as an alternative.  Would this be a good choice?

Hi @elbojon1

If you are looking into buying a new Officejet Pro printer I would recommend checking out this link: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/ads/ink-decisionator/overview.html

It's a decisionator tool to help choose which printer best suits your needs.

Depending on how much you print, you might be interested in the instant ink program. This is a subscription model whereby you pay the same monthly price and receive replacement cartridges as you need them. It works out cheaper than buying a new cartridge each time. Here's a link to some more details: https://instantink.hpconnected.com/us/en/r

The eligible countries and printer models are shown below.

Hi elbojon1,

I would suggest checking out the HP Decisionator. It takes you through a few questions that will help you choose the printer that is best suited to your needs.

Many Thanks,

Francheska

Hi  @elbojon1

Sorry to hear that you are having problems printing.

If you take a look at the following link for your printer

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02948312.pdf

Page 75 on this link takes you through how to do printhead cleaning. I see you have mentioned in your message that you have run the print head cleaning app already. Can you let me know if the procedure in the document is the same as what you have tried before as there are different levels of cleaning available.

Thanks

Bryan

Hello Bryan -

Many thanks for your tip!  I managed to remove the printhead unit from my printer and cleaned it up somewhat; however, after reinserting it and running the headcleaner app again, I could not get beyond the Step 1 cleaner.   When I went to Step 2, it gave me an error messagge that it was unable to perform the expected Step 2 task.   Any ideas as to how to find out what I should try next?
