I got an automatic update for Windows 10 version 1803.  Now Oficejet PRO 8100 is not printing. Get error message "Specified Driver is Invalid."  Updated drivers and still no luck.  I tried both USB and Network.  Same results.  Printer works on network from phone.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

MKazi is at your service.

I understand that you have an HP Officejet Pro 8100 ePrinter and it is not working post the automatic update for Windows 10 version 1803.  The printer still works fine from your phone. Not to worry, I'll be glad to assist you with this case.

I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting this issue and have certainly done a good job.

The evidence points towards a drivers issue. Let us uninstall the existing printer drivers from the root level and then reinstall them. The following steps should help.

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK. (There is a space between printui.exe and /s).
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.
  • You may click here to download and install the drivers.

Once the drivers are successfully installed, you may attempt to print.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Keep me posted for further assistance.

All the best! 🙂

Thanks for your directions!  I followed them successfully, however it did not fix the problem.  When I try to print using "Print test page" I still get the "Specified driver is invalid."  Help!!

You're welcome and thanks for attempting the suggested steps.

I suggest to try installing the basic printer drivers via this link: https://hp.care/2LzoIUZ

NOTE: Do not plug the USB cable from the printer to the computer initially. You may first begin the installation and during the course of the installation it will prompt to connect the printer. And that is when the printer needs to be connected via USB to the computer and continue with the installation.

If the issue persists then let us attempt to install the basic inbuilt printer drivers from the Windows operating system. Please refer to "Step 3: Install the print driver with the Add a Printer wizard" fro this link: https://hp.care/2igKeU1

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved. However, if none of the above drivers fix this issue then you could create a new user account in Windows and try installing the drivers in the new account. The steps mentioned in "Creating a new account" from this HP document should help: https://hp.care/2IsTtcz

Hope this information helps. Good luck! 🙂

When I click on your links I am getting warning messages!  "  because the link has been shortened more than once, or because we have detected potentially malicious content. "

I need the 32 bit installation file

You may download the basic drivers from this HP link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-officejet-pro-8100-eprinter-series-n81...

NOTE: It should work for 32 bit operating systems.

These are absolutely genuine HP links and do not contain any malicious content to cause harm to your computer.

Cheers! 🙂

Unfortunately this driver gets the same error message.

So far we have attempted to install the basic drivers and also the inbuilt printer drivers from Windows. But that did not help.

I suggest you to create a new user account in Windows and then try to install the printer drivers. Please refer to "Creating a new account" from this HP document to know how to create a new user account: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04648962

Let me know the outcome. Cheers! 🙂
