I managed to get the HP printer driver installed completely by running the installation software suite (circa 2015) by downloading the file from HP and when looking at it in file manager, right click and run using compatibility mode (windows 7). This worked for me on 6/8/2018 with all win10 64bit updates applied from microsoft.

Like  any good system admin, I have been upgrading my software and drivers. Now, I have tried every suggestion I can find on the web to get the 8610 drivers to load in windows 10 Creator. Nothing works, compatibility mode, administrator, THe 2015 drivers just will not load. I get a message saying "Windows can't install the HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 kernal-mode print driver ...".

OK, I'm a believer, it won't install. What now? The printer still works great - offline - for scanning to a USB drive. And, I just received a new ink cartrage for HP INstant Ink. I don't really want to buy a new printer. HP, HELP!!
