HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer

I've had my Officejet Pro 8620 for a few years and love it, zero problems.

A few days ago, the power went out in my house for like half a second. As things were coming back online, I noticed my printer was giving me the following error:

Missing or Failed Printhead

The printhead appears to be missing, not detected or not correctly installed.

Error Code: 0xc19a0013

I doubt the print head is actually dead and I think this split second power outage tripped something but I can't get it working.

Hi @road_hazard,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error message you're encountering on your HP Officejet Pro 8620 printer, "Missing or Failed Printhead" with error code 0xc19a0013, typically indicates an issue with the printhead or its connection. While a power outage could potentially cause problems with electronic devices, including printers, it's important to troubleshoot the issue to determine whether the printhead itself is faulty or if it's a connectivity problem.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Reinstall the Printhead:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the printer cover to access the printhead.
  • Carefully remove the printhead from its slot.
  • Reinstall the printhead by firmly pushing it back into its slot until it clicks into place.
  • Close the printer cover.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn on the printer.
  • Wait for it to complete its warm-up process.
  • If the error persists, perform a power reset by unplugging the printer from the power source, waiting for about 60 seconds, and then plugging it back in.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve various issues. You can check for firmware updates on the HP website and follow their instructions to update your printer's firmware.

Clean the Printhead Contacts:

  • If the error continues, you can try cleaning the electrical contacts on the printhead and in the printer. Use distilled water and lint-free cloth to gently clean the contacts.

Replace the Printhead:

  • If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's possible that the printhead itself is faulty. In such cases, you may need to replace the printhead with a new one.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
