Hi @GAYEOLDOWL,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating it can be when your printer won’t respond or load properly, especially when you need it for important tasks. Let’s work through some questions and steps to get your OfficeJet Pro 7720 working again.

  • Does the printer display any error messages on the screen, or does it stay frozen without responding?
  • Have you recently installed any firmware updates or changes to the printer’s software before this issue started?
  • Is the printer connected to a stable power source, and does it respond if you unplug it and plug it back in?

Meanwhile, let's try these steps.

Perform a Hard Reset of the Printer:
Unplug the printer from the power source without turning it off, wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in. This can help reset the hardware and may resolve any power-related issues.

Check Power Source and Cables:
Ensure that the printer is connected to a working outlet and not a power strip or extension cord, which might not provide consistent power. Try another outlet if possible.

Update Firmware Manually via HP’s Website:
If the printer turns on but doesn’t load software, try manually updating the firmware. Go to the HP Support website on your computer, download the latest firmware for the 7720, and follow the instructions to update the printer directly via USB if necessary.

Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults:
On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore to reset it to factory defaults. This can resolve configuration issues that might be preventing it from loading software or turning off.

Uninstall and Reinstall Printer Software on the Computer:
If software issues persist, uninstall the HP software on your computer, restart it, and download the latest version from HP’s website. Reinstalling can often resolve connectivity and software loading issues.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
