Owning an old M276n Laserjet Pro 200 with Firmware 20121026.
The printer crashes when attempting to send certain pdf and reboots immediately. The effect ist 100% repeatable and happens with the majority of actual pdf, like simple 1-page banking confirmations mostly a couple of short text lines and a logo.
Tried to search for a firmware update to cure this problem, but without any success.
Too bad, that the expensive toner cartridges are still pretty full.
Is there any help ? Are actual models using the same cartridges ?

This file is the firmware and would be installed on the printer which should then show a firmware date code of 20190401.

Make sure that your firmware is up to date. PDF files are notorious for causing this error as they grow more complex, even for what looks like simple documents. Could be as basic as a font that the printer does not have. You can try the advanced print option of "print as image"

Or you could try printing from a different PDF program, I have found that sometimes does the trick as well.

"Make sure that your firmware is up to date"
the question how to do so was the main matter of my
request.
I know the current fw version "20121026" is pretty old, but did not find any firmware offered for an upgrade  for this printer model on hp service site.
To print as an image is not offered in my MacOS printer menu. But sure am I able to do a screenshot and print that image as  a work-around. But I'd rather like to cure the root Problem in form of a firmware upgrade.
Still open how to and if at all possible ?

Sorry, you did not specify MAC OS in your original post, so that was an honest mistake on my part. It would appear that the newest MAC OS that HP links to a firmware update is 10.14. Whether that update will run on your current system I cannot say as I am not a MAC Expert. However the newest firmware is from 2019 so there are likely many improvements.

first of all, thank you very much for your rapid response in order to help me solving the problem !

I opened the link to the specific support page and found two software packages for my Mac,
but no explicit firmware to install on the printer itself.
So I installed the two packages in the hope, that there might be a firmware for the printer and an upgrade tool or instruction to install that on my MacBook Air M1 running latest OS Sequoia 15.2 :

  • Install HP Easy Start  2.15.0.240923.  10.8 MB.  Nov 12, 2024

  • HP Easy Admin.  2.15.0.240916.  4.0 MB.  Nov 14, 2024

Installation went flawlessly and test page worked, but scanning remained in an endless loop (but worked before)
But this remains  for now outside of the scope of my subject.

The attempt to install those packages seem to target only for problems laying in the computer OS or the printer driver.
My understanding as a software engineer is, that a crashing firmware as a result of sending data as printing job to the printer is most likely a fault in the firmware itself.
Sadly, that it still seems not possible to cure the printer. All offered solutions target the system outside the printer.
Any other suggestions ?

Wow, this one was extremely helpful !
After downloading and starting, the firmware was successfully installed. The pdf that formerly crashed the printers firmware now prints flawlessly.
Thanks a lot for your help and patience.
