I recently found a couple of old printers in a cupboard that I am currently trying to get working. The models of these printers are HP Deskjet D1560 and an HP Envy 5530.
Both printers have not been used for a year or more and have been stored with the ink cartridges in them. Now neither of them are printing anything, the head is moving as though printing but nothing is output to the paper. The PC is picking up that the cartridges have ink in them so I assume the issue is clogged print heads that cleaning is not resolving.
Before I buy new cartridges however I would like to know whether there could be issues with the printers themselves that is preventing them from printing. Could the printers themselves be clogged or are the print heads part of the cartridge for both these models of printer and would getting new cartridges likely solve the issue of nothing being printed.

Hi @suzyb1978,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
Fabulous description and superb diagnosis of the issue before posting.
Since the printers were not used for a very long time, yes the cartridges might have dried or clogged.
However, To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this.
- Did you run the print and scan doctor to try and resolve the issue?
For now please try these steps:
First, run the print and scan doctor utility from this link: http://hp.care/2b4bUIM and check if the issue is corrected.
If it continues, uninstall the printer by following these steps:
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
- Restart the PC again.
- Then download the latest full feature driver from http://hp.care/2sRmB5a and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
- Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
This model HP Deskjet D1560 seems pretty old and I recommend you contact HP internal support for more options.
For that to happen, we will give you additional instructions/information via Private Message.

Thanks for the response. I kind of forgot I had posted this until I went to clear some emails and found the notifications 😳
I just decided to buy some new ink for both printers as I thought it might be a nice project for me to try and clean them if it was needed but both are working fine with new cartridges.
