My OfficeJet 6835 won't shut down. Says it's updated, firmware downloaded but won't install. Tried all unplug, wait, replug fixes, including restoring to factory default settings. Still won't shut down. Was working a couple days ago, tried to scan, got stuck and wouldn't shut down.

Hi @mckg22,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6835 is encountering a firmware issue, which might be preventing it from shutting down properly. Since you've already tried basic troubleshooting steps like unplugging, waiting, and restoring to factory settings without success,

here are a few additional steps you can try:

1. Check for Pending Firmware Updates Manually Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Go to the printer's Control Panel.
  • Navigate to the Settings or Tools section.
  • Look for Firmware Updates (you might find this under "Printer Maintenance" or a similar menu).
  • If there's an update available, try manually installing it.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the printer's power cord from the outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • While the printer is unplugged, press and hold the Power button for 20 seconds.
  • Release the button, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.

3. Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from HP’s official website.
  • This tool can help diagnose and fix various printer issues, including firmware and shutdown problems.

4. Clear Print Jobs

  • Sometimes, the printer might be stuck in a print job that is preventing it from shutting down.
  • On your computer, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click the OfficeJet Pro 6835 and select See what's printing.
  • Cancel any pending print jobs.
  • Afterward, try turning the printer off again.
