Hi @Merlinda1

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When the orange or amber light is constantly on in an HP printer, it usually indicates an issue with the printer that needs attention. The light could be related to several things, like a paper jam, low ink, printer error, or Wi-Fi connection problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and fix the issue:

1. Check for Paper Jams

  • Open the printer’s paper tray and printer doors to check for any stuck paper.
  • Remove any jammed paper carefully to avoid damaging the printer.
  • Inspect the paper path (you might need to open the back of the printer as well) for any obstructions.

2. Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Ensure the ink cartridges are properly installed.
  • Check ink levels on your printer's control panel or using the HP Smart app.
  • If an ink cartridge is low or defective, it could trigger an error. You might need to replace it with a new one.

3. Check the Printer’s Network Connection (If applicable)

  • If you see the orange light on and your printer is connected to Wi-Fi, it could be indicating a network issue.
  • Restart your router and make sure your printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Try reconnecting your printer to Wi-Fi using the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer's control panel.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Power off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for 1-2 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and power it back on. This can often clear any temporary errors causing the orange light to stay on.

5. Check for Printer Errors

  • Sometimes the orange light is a result of an error in the printer. If you see an error message on the printer's screen, it may give you more information about what is causing the issue.
  • You can also check for error codes using the HP Smart app or the HP support website.

I hope this helps.
