I have the Envy 7640. I put 5x7 photo paper in the tray, but get a message there is no paper when I try to print. I can however print regular paper size documents.
Is it possible the printer can be registered to myself and another person?

Hi @NJDave1
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP printer, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
1. Check Paper Tray Settings
- Open the paper tray and make sure the paper guides are properly aligned to the edges of the 5x7 paper.
- If the printer is not detecting the paper size, you may need to adjust the paper settings within the printer software or on the printer’s control panel.
2. Set Paper Size in Printer Settings
- From your computer:
- Go to Printers & Scanners in your Windows settings.
- Select your HP ENVY 7640 printer and choose Manage.
- Click on Printing Preferences and make sure the paper size is set to 5x7 in the Paper/Quality tab.
- From the Printer’s Control Panel:
- Press the Home button.
- Go to Setup > Paper Setup.
- Select Paper Size and choose 5x7.
3. Use the Correct Paper Type
4. Check for Paper Detection Issue
- Remove all paper from the tray, including the 5x7 photo paper.
- Clean the paper feed rollers gently with a lint-free cloth.
- Reinsert the paper and make sure it’s aligned properly.
5. Test with a Different Paper Size
Registering the Printer to Multiple People
Yes, you can register your HP ENVY 7640 printer to multiple people. Registration with HP is usually associated with HP Instant Ink or warranty services.
HP Instant Ink: You can add multiple users to an HP Instant Ink account, which allows other people in the household to access ink usage and manage subscriptions.
HP Account: While you can only have one main account owner (the person who registered the device), other family members or users can also add the printer to their HP accounts if they need access for printer management, troubleshooting, or to use features like scanning via HP Smart.
Here’s how you can add users or manage your printer with other accounts:
Link the Printer to Multiple Accounts:
- Sign into your HP Smart app (available for both desktop and mobile).
- Add the printer by selecting the + sign and entering the printer’s serial number or following the prompts.
- Once added, other people can access the printer by installing the HP Smart app on their devices and logging in with their HP account.
Share Printer Access:
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
