@SunFamily, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The PCL XL Error: Illegal Operator Sequence typically indicates a communication or driver-related issue between the printer and the Windows print subsystem. Since you've already updated the driver, here are a few additional steps to help resolve the issue:
Switch to a Different Print Driver
Sometimes the default PCL6 driver can cause issues. Try switching to the HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) or PostScript (PS) driver:
- Download the latest HP Universal Print Driver from the HP Driver Support Page.
- Choose PostScript or PCL5 version during installation.
- After installation, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click your printer, and select Printer Properties > Advanced, then choose the newly installed driver from the drop-down.
Disable Advanced Printing Features
- Go to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer > Printer Properties > Advanced tab.
- Uncheck Enable advanced printing features.
- Click Apply and OK.
Print Directly to the Printer
- In the same Advanced tab, select Print directly to the printer instead of Spool print documents.
Update Firmware
Ensure your printer firmware is up to date:
- Visit the HP Firmware Update Page.
- Download and install the latest firmware for your model.
Try Printing a Local File
To isolate the issue, try printing a document saved locally (not from the network drive). If it works, the issue may be related to network permissions or file corruption.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
