Microsoft Windows 11

When I try to print from my computer (which I had been doing without a problem) my Samsung printer SL-M288FW/XAC now prints a page with the message:

PCL6  ERROR - Insufficient Memory

Position    0x78063

System    eHeapTemp

Line         34889856

Version   PCL6 7 .89 11-14-2013

Error Code   11-1311

I've tried unplugging the printer power and connector and restarting my computer.  HP phone support could not help.

Hi @debbieten,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "PCL6 ERROR - INSUFFICIENT MEMORY" typically indicates that the printer’s memory is overwhelmed by the print job, which can sometimes be caused by a complex print job or a driver issue. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Visit the Samsung or HP support website and download the latest drivers for your Samsung SL-M288FW/XAC printer. Uninstall the current driver from your computer, then install the new one. This can resolve issues related to outdated or corrupted drivers.

Check Print Job Complexity:

  • If the document you are trying to print is very complex or has a large number of graphics, try printing a simpler document to see if the problem persists.

Reduce Print Quality:

  • Try reducing the print quality (e.g., from "High" to "Draft") in the printer settings. This can reduce the amount of memory required for printing.

Adjust Printer Settings:

  • Access the printer settings via the printer’s control panel or the printer software on your computer. Look for any memory or performance-related settings and adjust them if available.

Clear Printer Memory:

  • Sometimes, clearing the printer’s memory can help. Try performing a factory reset on the printer to clear any temporary issues.

Check Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up to date. Firmware updates can address bugs and improve performance. Check the Samsung or HP website for the latest firmware updates for your printer.

Print a Diagnostic Page:

  • Printing a diagnostic or test page can help you identify if the problem is with the printer hardware itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you , Alden!  I tried a few different things yesterday and finally something seems to have worked -- I'm not sure what.  Maybe changing the printer name or trying to install an updated driver?  Anyway, I will save your reply for next time.
