OfficeJet Pro 6960
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

Before I upgraded the print software using 123 (HP Easy Start), PDFs would print double-sided PDF output perfectly. Afterward, no matter what option I select for the print driver, the PDFs print head to foot, making double-sided print useless.

Excel, Word print as selected. PDFs through Acrobat will not hold the setting any longer since the update. The Acrobat print box does not offer double-side option when the 6960 printer is selected, but that did not matter before the update.

I also have a LaserJet Pro M451dn and it works perfectly. I installed the 123.com full software because without it, I could not use the scanner.

Thanks.

Thanks for the very detailed help file.

It really does no good, however.

You see, when you get to the part about updating the firmware, there is no update available for Apple 10.13.  There are two options, however.

The first is to simply remove the printer and fax from the printer-scanner window and reinstall. Leaving all alone, when the Print Control opens, simply select the 6960 and the 2-side option. Move the slider to the position you prefer for quality of print. This is the basic print control.

If you want to build a permanent solution for Acrobat, run the Easy Print and do a full install for 6960, then follow along:

1. Open the Acrobat document.

2. Select the number of pages if you don't want all to print.

3. Select the 6960 as your printer.

4. Select Printer from the bottom of the Acrobat print control window.

5. Answer "Yes" if the alert box reminds you of print and asks if you with to continue.

6. When the Mac print control window appears, select the 6960 printer.

7. The Mac control panel contains many more options. Select 2-sided, Long Edge.

8. In the Presets window, click and "Save Current Setting as Preset." Name the preset something like Default 1-2 and make sure it is saved.

   - MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE OPTION FOR THE 6960 ONLY AND NOT FOR ALL PRINTERS

9. Click Print. The window will return you to the Acrobat print control.

10. Print. The result should be double-sided, head-to-head.

Make sure you install the apps HP Utility.app and HP Easy Scan.app. The utility app makes certain you can scan to the computer, while the Easy Scan offers all the options of a full-fledged scanner.

I never try anything like this on the main boot partition. I have at least two mirror back-ups on two separate drives and did try your approach on one of the back-ups. The printer could not be recognized, although the scan portion of the drive window did respond.

The printer would load the job, but with incorrect icons. PDFs showed up as PS, while Word showed up as PDFs. Never could find the printer.

I guess I can't complain since I am using 10.13.5 and never found it necessary to post here a lot. The greatest issue I have ever had was with the 2605dn (I believe that was the number) that was such an abject failure. I was able to get a small discount on the LaserJet Pro 400/M451 dn. The only issue with it is one cannot use Acrobat or Photoshop color control and must use internal printer color control or everything comes out faded.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

I understand after the update you are facing printing issue.

However, I suggest you do a Hard Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.

(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Use this link: https://hp.care/2LfqxX7 and update the firmware for the printer.

Delete the existing print queue and add the printer

Remove the printer queue from the list of printers, and then add it again. Doing so creates a new printing session.

  1. Make sure your Mac is connected to the Internet.

  2. In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button  to delete it.

  3. Click the Add button .

  4. Find and select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer. Do not select an HP Fax driver.

       NOTE:

If your printer does not display in the list, make sure the printer is connected, turned on, has power, and is ready to print.

Figure : Example of the printer selection list

Image: The Add window showing a selection of printers with one model selected.
  5. Click Print Using or Use.

  6. Select the name of your printer (if available) or AirPrint.

Figure : Menu showing AirPrint selected

    Image: Menu showing AirPrint selected

Your new printer queue displays in the Printers list in an Idle status .

Figure : Example of a newly added printer in the Printers & Scanners list

  7. Try printing again.

Keep me posted, how it goes! However, I'll try and follow up in next 24 to 48 hours to doublecheck on the issue.

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution and Kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Have a great day!

Cheers:)
