Back around November, when I started using my Envy, I was noticing when I entered pictures in a WORD document, then printed, some or most of the picture was cut off (not printed). So I tried PDF. When printing PDF it printed the whole document....pictures and all. I was thrilled!....although I'd have prefered to have kept the document WORD based to print. So.....I now save my WORD documents (with pictures) as PDF but although the PDF documents print fully, the color seems a bit off. The WORD document printed much better color wise.
First of all why won't a document fully print as a WORD document?
Second, if I must use PDF, why is the color not as clear and concise as the WORD document?
Thank you very much for any help. Its been months that I have been saving PDF and its convenient....just that the printed color is not great.

Hi! @rubymist, Welcome to the HP Support Community, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Does the issue persist when you make a copy from your printer?
Try reinstalling the PDF application and try printing again and check if the issue persists.
Try the steps recommended below.
Ensure that your printer is turned on and connected.
Choose File > Print, and then click Advanced.
The location of the Advanced button depends on the version of Reader or Acrobat.
Select Print as Image.
The location of the Print as Image options depends on the version of Reader or Acrobat.
Adobe releases free security updates quarterly. The updates often include improvements to common problems. Download the latest free update:
Open Reader or Acrobat.
Choose Help > Check For Updates. If a new update is available, it installs automatically.
Once installed, restart you computer.
Print the PDF again.
Open a PDF from the web (like from Adobe.com) and see if it displays correctly. There is the issue of the display versus the creation process that needs to be resolved.
For your PDF, use ctrl-D to check the document properties and check if the fonts are all embedded and are NOT Type 3 fonts.
If you are using a typical LCD display, you may want to check the smooth images and fonts in edit>preferences.
Let me know if this helps!
Have a wonderful day ahead! 🙂

Mr.Robot thank you very much for taking the time to respond with all the great suggestions. Unfortunately, none really worked to resolve the problem. Your last suggestion of "smoothing" out the images and fonts were already checked in the boxes when I opened the edit area.
Just odd that my previous HP printer unit, I believe it was Inkjet 6940, which I had for several years, had no problem fully printing WORD documents with images, yet the Envy 4520 somehow has those problems. IF I print a text document in WORD, it prints the full document fine. I do use PDF often. Its a great program. Just disappointed having to use it if its already completed in WORD.
My Envy 4520 I am VERY happy with...minus the problems between WORD and PDF documents printing images.
Happy Happy Day to you, as well Mr. Robot! Thanks for your time. Lisa

Hi Lisa,
Try printing the PDF file as an image and check if it helps.
Try the steps recommended below.
In the Print dialog box, click Advanced.
If a custom printer settings file exists with the settings you want, choose it from the Settings menu. Otherwise, choose Acrobat Default.
If normal printing doesn’t produce the desired results, select Print As Image and choose a resolution from the drop-down list.
Select any of the panels on the left side of the Advanced Print Setup dialog box, and set options for either composite or separations output.
To save the settings using a unique name, click Save As, specify a filename, and click OK.
Click OK to accept the settings and return to the Print dialog box.
Refer this article from Adobe website to know more information about printing file as an image. Click Here
Take Care! 🙂

Thank you, Appolo, for your response...but maybe either I am explaining this wrong, or someone is interpreting it wrong.....
I want to print in WORD format...NOT NECESSARILY PDF.
Its the images that I put in my WORD documents that are partially not printing, although will print if I pick PDF.
The WORD documents I previously print with my HP Deskjet 6940 printed just fine and never had to print these WORD format documents PDF in order to get the whole image(s) to print.
My question is why won't my WORD docs with IMAGES print correctly? Its not so much a PDF concern, but a WORD document question.
So once I have to use PDF....thats, then, where the images don't seem to be as good, printed, as if I printed in WORD.
The thing is I simply want to print the document using my WORD. Not necessarily PDF. As mentioned, all my WORD documents, with images, printed perfect on my HP 6940. But with my HP Envy 4520 it seems to be missing something when printing a WORD document, with images. If needed, I could print a WORD document with the cut off images if needed.
I know its very hard to explain things "writing" rather than "directly, like on the phone" so please don't think I am being critical. You are trying to understand me....and me, you.
I very sincerely appreciate everyones assistance. Thanks so much. I hope this bit of information gives you a better idea of what my problem is.
Most very sincerely,
Lisa

Try the steps recommended below.
Display the Word Options dialog box. (In Word 2007 click the Office button and then click Word Options. In Word 2010 or Word 2013 display the File tab of the ribbon and then click Options.)
Click Advanced at the left of the dialog box.
Scroll down until you see the section entitled Print.
Make sure the Use Draft Quality option is cleared.
Click Display at the left of the dialog box.
Make sure the Print Drawings Created in Word check box is selected.
Make sure the Print Background Colors and Images check box is selected.
Click OK.
Also, if you still have issues after trying out the steps and since it is a application specific issue.
I suggest you contact Microsoft support for more assistance.
Take Care! 🙂
