When I purchased this printer, I was told it was good for printing photos on photo paper, but all I get is an E4 message but no paper jam. I have thousands of photos to print and it will usually do 10 then error message. Seems that the rollers are going around but not doing anything. I have done cleanings as per instructions and checked everything else and there are no issues.

Hi @TRUCKNMUM,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
I understand how frustrating it is to see an E4 error when printing photos, especially with thousands of photos to get through. Since you mentioned there’s no paper jam, the issue is likely related to paper feed / photo paper handling rather than the printer being faulty. Let’s try the following steps:
Confirm the Paper Settings
Make sure you select the correct paper type (Photo Paper) and paper size in the print settings before starting.
If plain paper is set by default, the printer may misfeed glossy paper.
Load Photo Paper Correctly
Use only HP-recommended photo paper (ideally HP Premium Plus or Advanced Photo Paper, glossy or matte).
Load 10–15 sheets max at a time (don’t overfill the tray).
Place the glossy side facing down (if single-sided photo paper).
Clean & Align Paper Feed Rollers
Even though you’ve run cleanings, I recommend manually cleaning the rollers:
Power off printer & unplug it.
Open the rear access door/paper path and gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
Let dry completely, reinsert and restart.
Firmware & Reset
Make sure your printer has the latest firmware update via HP Smart app.
Try a semi-full reset: unplug while powered on → wait 60 sec → plug back in.
Test Print
First test with plain paper (to confirm the feed works fine).
Then try a few photo sheets (5–10 only) to see if the error repeats.
I hope this helps.
