I unplugged at east 4 times during the day as it was the only way to wake it. Each time unbeknownst t me it wasn’t doing a complete reboot. The last time it rebooted from the beginning and now works as it should.  I even held the on button till the light n longer was on during each reboot but didn’t help.

Hello BigDog,

HP has created a new firmware update for the HP PageWide 377dw, HP PageWide Pro 477dw/dn, and HP PageWide Pro 577dw/57750dw products to help mitigate the “Unable to Wake from Standby Mode” problem that some users experience after updating to version 001.1839A firmware (and also on certain older versions).

The specific change included in this new firmware release adds the ability to set the Power Management Energy Save “Standby After” setting to “Never” as shown here:

                SETTING STANDBY TO “NEVER”

 StandbyNever.jpg

Changing the Energy Save Setting to Standby After “Never” will prevent the device from entering Standby Mode, and therefore prevent the problem of not being able to wake up from Standby Mode.

Getting the New Firmware

If your printer is not set to update automatically and/or has not already been updated, you can manually check for the update via the Embedded Web Server (EWS) on the product.

To check the version of firmware on your printer, enter the IP address of your printer into your web browser to view the EWS, then select the "Tools" tab, then select "Printer Updates", and then "Firmware Updates" on the left panel.

The firmware version which provides the ability to set the Standby time to "Never" has the characters of "1850B.00" at the end of the firmware version.  If your printer has a lower version number, go to the "Check for Printer Updates" section lower on the page and click on the "Check Now" button, then follow the prompts to download and install the printer update.

I went online as you suggested and double checked my firmware. It is the1850B.00 as you suggested. But it has no option for standby none.

Alsolike I said before the problem was it would not completely restart till after unplugging at least 4 times. Last couple after unplugging I’d hold the on/off button down till the light went completely out on the button. Even then it took a couple tries before it did a complete reboot. It’s working correctly now.

hi Bigdog,

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!

So, with the newest update, 1850B, the "Never" setting is not available?  that's strange.  Can you tell me what options are available in the drop-down menu when you look at the EWS page? (Settings tab > Power Management >Energy Save Settings > "Standby After")

One other option, should this pop back up at a future date: Power-cycle the device with the network cable disconnected, then reconnect the network cable after the device finishes restarting and is in the ready state.

When I click on power management on printer I have only sleep mode and schedule printer on/off. Sleep only goes to 5 minutes as lowest.

i just noticed on the web version I do have the option for never. So I clicked on never an web version and then rebooted printer. Went to power management and it was blank. Since there was no never option. So back to web and chose 5 minutes and went back to home screen on printer, back to power management and it shows 5 minutes. Some how I’m guessing maybe the latest update didn’t completely take and that’s why I had so much trouble. Is there a way to force it to redo the latest firmware?

I understand now.  Instead of changing from the front panel on the device, you will need to go to the Embedded Webserver ("EWS") to make the change.  The EWS is accessable from your browser, just enter the IP Address of the printer into the browser address field and the printer EWS will come up.  Once you are into the EWS, go to the Settings tab, then to Power Management Energy Save Settings as shown in my earlier post.  From there you will be able to set Standby to "Never".

Hope this helps.

Ok got ya. But now that the display is working properly I no longer need the never option. It is set to 5 minutes and wakes as it should. Thanks for all your help. I learned a lot. Never realized I could access it from my web browser like I do my router.

Went to print a couple things this morning and the printer is back to the display frozen and it says the printer is busy. I think there is a problem with this latest update and wonder if there is anyway to put the firmware update back to the last one?

You mentioned in your post on the Jan 3rd that you had your printer set to 5 minutes.  Try setting it to "Never" via the EWS (web browser) method. This will prevent it from "sleeping" and avoid the problem.
