I keep getting paper mismatch error from my computer and coping directly from the printer. I always use letter size paper and haven’t changed anything. I did have a paper jam but have cleaned out and followed all the paper jam instructions. I have had issues with this error since I got my printer. Sometimes just putting more paper in it would fix it, turning it off and on, or giving it a little shake and it would work again. I have tried turning it off and on several times and have gone through the forums searching for answers and haven’t found anything that solved it. I would love to just bypass this feature if at all possible. Thanks for any help.

Thank you so much for your replies. I pulled the paper tray out and flipped the printer over to take a look. One of the tabs was slightly pulled out on one of the sides of the paper guides. It must have happened when I had the paper jam. Sorry to have wasted your time. I hope this helps someone else with the same problem. Thanks again. Have a great day!

Thank you for your post. I have never heard of adjusting the paper size / type by shaking the printer. Thanks for that. The day has been long. Yes, I realize you likely do not actually pick up the printer and shake it - it was just the way I read the text the first time. Regardless, thank you.
The printer wants you to tell the printer control panel about the paper size / type each time you add / change paper in the printer. Even opening the tray can result in the printer wanting to know what is happening.
No, I am not aware that this is a feature that can be switched off.
The printer can also get confused if the Preferences are changed, that is, if you use a different shortcut from the previous selection and "something" about the paper is different. The printer might get confused if the new shortcut does not actually designate the paper size, too.
Printer is perhaps trying to help and is instead making things more complicated.
The User Guide explains how this is supposed to be working.
For example,
See the general contents of the Load Paper section, including those on Page 14
Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Panel
Open Printer Tray,
If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type
Close Tray
IF applicable for your printer:
Look for a message on the Printer Control Panel,
Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK
NOTE: If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down list, Select Custom
Set the Preferences - Windows
- The following assumes the Full Feature Software has been installed.
- Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”
- Select and adjust settings in each category for the Media (kind of paper), source (tray), and paper size.
Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Set as Default
Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Printing Preferences >
Tab Printing Shortcuts > Click / Highlight preferred shortcut > Click Apply > Click OK to exit
If the printer software supports the feature, change the settings as desired, then use “Save as” to create a Custom Shortcut.
OR
Windows key + S (search for) Printers and Scanners
Left-Click on (your) Printer > Manage >
Printing Preferences
Select a shortcut and / or set “preferred settings” for paper, source (tray), other settings
Optional (if / as supported on the printer): Save As > enter a name for your custom shortcut
Click OK to save the preferences
What else?
A paper jam might have left the printer in an "odd" state.
An 'Out of Paper' error displays, printer does not pick paper
I understand you have already cleaned the printer, so try (if you have not done so), the Reset the Printer

Thanks for the reply. I did reset the printer and have up to date software/firmware. This mismatch error happens when I’m coping directly from the printer so I don’t believe my Windows operating system has anything to do with it. However it is set as default and I haven’t changed anything on it since I was able to print earlier in the day. I have gone through the Manuel for all paper related issues and haven’t found a solution. I downloaded the print/scan doctor and it suggested unplugging (which I have already done several times) and printing a test sheet that doesn’t print because of the mismatch error. The sheets that come out are perfectly blank, nothing wrong or stuck in the rollers. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks

Oh, dear. You meant "Copying".
Apologies - I am usually better with simple misspelled words.
OK, perhaps this will be more useful...
Set the Copy Defaults
Open your favorite browser > type / enter Printer IP address into URL / Address bar
Tab Copy > Copy Defaults
Adjust setting(s) and click Apply to save changes
Officejet Pro 9025 - EWS > Copy > Copy Defaults
Note that Copy settings available on your printer may be different than those shown in the example.
EWS_9025_Copy_Defaults_2
Next - Printer Model Dependent
If your printer separates the Tray and Paper Management section from the rest of the Copy Defaults,
Then
EWS > Tab Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management
Adjust setting(s) and click Apply to save changes
Example - Officejet Pro 9025 - EWS > Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management
Note that Copy settings available on your printer may be different than those shown in the example.
NOTE:
If the settings are already set as needed, change one setting briefly
Open drop down menu, click a setting
Close the drop down menu, click the Paper size you want to keep
Click Apply to save changes.
Check / Adjust the settings in Advanced as available.

I have been in the printer web server and everything was correct. I did switch the paper to something different and then switch it back to letter like you suggested and switched actual size to custom 100%. I do not have the extra tray settings. It still has the mismatch error.

Excellent.
You are welcome.
It was not a waste of time.
Having checked the possible means of it being a setup problem, you thought to go back and recheck the physical parts of the operation that started the whole problem in the first place. Not a waste, just the long way 'round. It happens. Smiling.
Happy Printing.
