My printer has worked flawlessly for just over 2 years and, without any visible reason for doing so, now crinkles the paper for almost every print job.

When I print from an application (Word, WordPerfect, Excel, MS Paint, etc.), there is a page-wide crinkle about 2.5" from the top.  This does not happen when I a diagnostic or test page. It also does not happen when I print from an Apple device.

I have tried using different kinds of paper.  No difference.  I've tried using different paper settings (heavy paper, photo paper, etc.)  No difference.

Any advice on how I can troubleshoot from here?

I failed to mention that I had tried a generic driver and that failed, too.   After my posting, I uninstalled and reinstalled the printer, which (at least thus far) has corrected the problem.   Thanks for the advice.

Hello @lenealmd,

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that the paper is crinkled only when printing from When I print from an application Word, Word Perfect, Excel, MS Paint, and other applications. But you don't have this issue with the test pages or from an Apple device. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

  • It sounds like a driver issue. I would suggest installing a Generic driver to see if you have the same results.

  • On the computer, go to Start.
  •  Devices and Printers.
  • Select Add a Printer.
  • Follow the steps and  select HP Deskjet 9800 from the list. Set this one as the default printer.
  • Try printing again.
  •

I have provided a document for paper issues: Printer Paper Tears, Wrinkles, or is Damaged while Printing from the All-in-One.

If you are still having issues, I would uninstall and reinstall the printer software: OJ8600_1315-1.exe
