Hi @Dee11221,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the "tray open" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018e All-in-One Printer typically indicates that the printer is detecting the paper tray as open or improperly closed, even if it appears to be closed correctly.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

1. Check the Paper Tray

  • Remove the paper tray from the printer completely.
  • Inspect the tray for any signs of damage or obstructions, such as small bits of paper or other debris.
  • Reinsert the tray firmly back into the printer until it clicks into place.

2. Inspect for Obstructions

  • Open the printer's front cover to check for any paper jams or foreign objects that might prevent the tray from closing properly.
  • Look inside the printer where the paper tray goes for any debris or obstructions that could interfere with the sensor or tray alignment.

3. Clean the Paper Tray and Printer

  • Clean the edges and bottom of the paper tray with a lint-free cloth to remove any dust or dirt that might be affecting the tray sensor.
  • Check the sensors inside the printer where the paper tray sits. Gently clean the area around these sensors if they are dirty or blocked.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • After the printer restarts, check if the error message persists.

5. Update Firmware- Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Make sure your printer firmware is up to date. Outdated firmware can sometimes cause sensor issues or false error messages.
  • You can update the firmware through the HP Smart app or the printer’s settings menu if connected to the internet.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
