cant open paper tray with power on HP9015

OK I went back through the printer again and found a piece of paper stuck in a place I hade not seen before probably from a previous paper jam. The tray opens now with the power on. Something in the printer must have been hitting that when the power was on creating the problem. Perhaps the print heads?

Hi @Red1911Dog,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you are unable to open the paper tray on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 with the power on, there could be a mechanical issue or a software glitch causing the problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Try to open the paper tray again.

2. Check for Obstructions

  • Ensure that there are no obstructions blocking the paper tray.
  • Turn off the printer and gently check if any paper or foreign objects are preventing the tray from opening.

3. Manual Release

  • Some printers have a manual release mechanism for the paper tray. Refer to the user manual for instructions on how to manually release the tray if this feature is available.

4. Firmware Update

  • Ensure that the printer firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates can resolve hardware control issues.
  • Go to the HP Support website and check for firmware updates for your printer model.
  • Download and install any available updates.

5. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a reset on the printer. This can sometimes clear any software issues that might be causing the problem.
  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Turn the printer on and check if the paper tray can be opened.

6. Inspect the Tray Mechanism

  • Turn off the printer and carefully inspect the tray mechanism.
  • Check if any part of the tray or its guide rails are damaged or misaligned.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

The solution supplied was to power down the printer to get the paper tray to open.

Why do I have to power down the printer to open the paper tray was my question. I did not have to do that in the past now it is the only way to open the paper tray when it is empty.

If there is 1/4 inch in the paper tray it will open with the power on.
