I've had this printer for two days now and at first it printed letters/photos from both computer and Apple devices(using HP Smart app). Today, I printed some letters from iPad with no problem. Then I tried printing some photos. It started out by spitting out 3 blank letter size pages and then the first 2 photo papers were only colored the first 1/2 inch then went all white. The last one printed maybe 2 inches and then went all white. I did all the obvious, restart all devices including router. I'm bewildered as to how it all changed. No software other than HP has been installed since installing printer.

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Superb description and terrific observations made. It is amply appreciated.
Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly:
- Does the printer print photos correctly from the Mac?
- Are you able to make photocopies of snaps directly from the printer?
I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:
- Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-photo-7100-all-in-one-printer-series/9073119/model/9073... and follow instructions from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer”
- Then update the printer’s firmware by following directions from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16 use a USB cable to do it.
- Later run all the latest iOS updates and ensure that the most current iOS updates are installed on the computer.
- Then uninstall and reinstall HP Smart App and check if the issue gets resolved.
- Also, check if printing photos from the MacBook work correctly using the same photo paper.
- Make photocopies of at least 1 image using the same photo paper directly from the printer without any communication from the computer.
- Also, check by printing as Apple AirPrint by following relevant instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-photo-7100-all-in-one-printer-series/9073119/model/9073... (HP Printers - Printing with Apple AirPrint (iOS)
- This should do the trick.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

I am printing photos after doing the reset as specified. And, instead of using the HP Smart from iPhone/iPad, I select just print which I am assuming means Air Print(?). If using the HP Smart app, it pops up printing error-no code just words-and trys to print. So, this is working fine for me now. Oh forgot, after resetting, I got a message on computer--Windows 10 HP Envy tower, purchased back in 01/2018-that a door was open. Opened and closed everything and it popped up again. But, it's printing and I'm happy. Thank you very much for your assistance.
