About 2 weeks ago I had an internal paper jam which required removing the rear panel to access the jam(followed hp directions). Fixed the problem and prints fine. That night I was awakened every 1-2 hours with the printer going thru some kind of internal movements lasting about 20 seconds. Now I turn the printer off At night but need to leave on during day and it is very annoying to have the printer go thru this routine every 1-2 hours. Once I timed it and it was almost exactly every 2 hours but it is more random now . I do have Instant ink and wondered if hp was doing some kind on remote diagnostics although printer prints fine. The printer does not shut down and nothing special on display. Again this problem started with the initial paper jam which was corrected. Any help appreciated.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
This is a great place to get support, find answers to your technical queries.
I understand that the printer is making noise.
I suggest you do a Hard Reset
(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Then, let's aligning the printhead that could resolve errors with Test Pattern 1.
-
On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the Dashboard, and then touch the Setup icon
.
-
Swipe up on the display, and then touch Printer Maintenance.
-
Touch Align Printhead, and then touch Continue.
An alignment page prints.

SOLVED
I solved this problem by disconnecting the FAX line to the printer. My guess is the someone tried to fax me something and it did not go through (not sure why) and their machine kept trying to fax my machine every hour or so. When this happened it caused my printer to do an internal (and noisy) operation. Again there was no Control Panel message, just the noise.
