HP Color LaserJet M553

A client of mine recently gave me a HP Color LaserJet M553.

I would like to repurpose this printer but before doing so noticed that the "Job Log" found on the "Information" tab is still populated with their staffs' print jobs. Some of this data could be considered confidential.

Please help--how do I delete this "Job Log" data?

What I have done so far:

Via the web console connected to the printer over the network, on the "Security" tab, left menu item "Protected Shared Data" I clicked on the button "Erase" under "Job Data". The printer rebooted and when it came back up and I logged back into the printer over the network, the "Job Log" data was still there. I am perplexed as to what to do next.

The document shows how to get into preboot mode, then go to administration and you will see the partial clean option. Select it the back key until you see continue. Select and device will restart and reinstall OS from cached copy.

You should first erase data using the embedded webserver as shown below

I would then recommend that you perform a partial clean from the pre-boot menu which will clear all settings and reinitialize the operating system of the printer. Refer to the readme file for firmware https://support.hp.com/soar-attachment/979/col60979-readmefs3.html for instructions on accessing the pre-boot menu.

Repairatrooper, thank you for responding and attempting to help me out. I very much appreciate that.

So, I did try your first step but, the only option I am able to select is the first option, "Non-Secure Fast Erase (No Overwrite)" the other two options are grey'ed out ("Secure Fast Erase (Overwrite 1 time)" AND "Secure Sanitize Erase (Overwrite 3 times)".

See below:

Any idea as to why I am not able to select those lower two options?

Thanks for any help you can give--really appreciate it.

If there is no secure password on the embedded web server that might prevent that secure options from showing up. I would proceed to perform the partial clean from the pre-boot menu as that will wipe the active partition, but not with an over-write. The other options might become available after the partial clean or if you apply a password under the security tab.

I'm not seeing in that document you referred me to the instructions for performing a "partial clean from the pre-boot menu".

Where in that document will I find these instructions?

Thanks so much for your help.

Repairatrooper, just to clarify, are you speaking of the section in the document entitled, "Pre-Boot walk-up USB thumb drive"?

(Just to confirm, the link you sent was to a document entitled, "HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M552 and M553 Series Firmware Readme", is that correct document?)

Yes, follow the steps to open the preboot menu and then find the option for partial clean under the administration menu.

Hi Repairatrooper, your suggestion did the trick once I could figure out how to get into the pre-boot menu. This printer does not have touchscreen. I finally figured out how to access the pre-boot menu from Alex-TATS  in an answer he gave here: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/HP-M553-pre-boot-menu/td-p/6179208.

Once I was able to access the pre-boot menu I was able to get access do a partial wipe as you suggested and that cleared the Job Log.

Thank your for your patient help!!
