HP OfficeJet Pro 8710
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

I switched from the 8500 series printer to the 8710. Pitures in my Word documents are now not printing to scale. On the computer I can see the entire picture, but when it prints it makes the picture larger in the same size frame, so I only get 2/3 of the picture to print.

Meh... if saving and printing from PDF works, then use that.  Cheaper.  Smiling.

If even that fails after a while, then first try

Then maybe consider upgrading your Office Software...

A couple of Ideas...

NOTE:

Options have not been tested in older Operating System (Windows 8).

Options have not been tested in older Office Word installations.

If you have not done so,

  • Uninstall any printer software for the "old" printer (Officejet 8500) from Programs and Features
  • Restart the computer and log in

If you have not done so,

  • Download, Save, and Install the Full Feature Software
  • After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

If you have not done so,

  • Open Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features >
  • Right-Click on Office Software >
  • If available, click "Repair" / "Modify" (anything OTHER than uninstall) >
  • Repair the Office software
  • Restart the computer and log in

NOTE:  Although it is unlikely you will need it, have your Office License key handy.

Always use Insert as opposed to "Copy and Paste".

  • Open the document in your latest version of Office Word >

If you do not have a stored copy of the image, create with

  • Right-Click on image > Save as picture
  • "Cut" (remove) the image from the document >
  • Click "Insert" (top ribbon), Open the folder in which the image is stored, Insert the image file into the document >
  • Right-Click the inserted image > Adjust the size as / if needed

If the image refuses to stay inside the boundaries or if the content is still "Clipped", use a Text Box to corral the image and force it within the confines of the text box.

  • Open the document in your latest version of Office Word >

If you do not have a stored copy of the image, create with

  • Right-Click on image > Save as picture
  • "Cut" (remove) the image from the document >
  • Locate the spot in the document where you wish to insert the image

Insert > Text box > If necessary, Remove any "sample text" from inside the box >

Click inside the box to activate the Text Box >

Grab a corner of the box, expand/contract the box to the size you want >

Tab Insert > Pictures > Navigate to the folder in which you saved your image >

Click once on the file you want to highlight > Click Insert

Click on the image (now inside the text box) >

Within the confines of the box, expand/contract the image to the size you want >

Click "Away" from the text box (click anywhere in the Word document outside the text box)

Example:

Chicken_in_Text_Box_1.JPG

Save your Word document >

File > Print > Test the results:

Select and print just one page that contains the corrected image

I already tried a system restore, however, I believe my malware program got rid of a file that restore needed, so it couldn't complete it. This laptop is 7 years old, so it's probably time for a new one anyway!  And it's a business expense, so no biggie.

Thanks so much for the quick reply!

You are welcome.

Gotta love new tech.  If the company is willing to pay for a new computer, then it is definately time to upgrade.  Smiling.

Consider a business grade computer -- the hardware and software is configurable (more options to get what you want), the warranty is better, the hardware is generally built to a higher standard...  true, too,  that business grade coputers cost more up front.

Computers are much like cars in this respect:  You get what you pay for.  Smiling.

Good Luck -- hopefully you will find a shiny new HP computer that fits your needs and budget!
