I have an old HP Photosmart 3300. The documentation states that the printer operates in Windows XP. My laptop is Windows 10. I tried to install the printer software on my laptop and the install failed. Is there someway around this failure? I currently plug the printer into my laptop but would like to use the printer wirelessly, which the printer can handle. Any ideas?
Thanks so much.

Hi! @Carolyn24, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand you have issues installing your printer on a Windows 10 PC.
Don't worry I'd like to help you out.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
As you mentioned you have issues installing your printer on a Windows 10 PC.
Since it is a very old printer there are no printer drivers available from HP.
Try few steps recommended below.
Uninstall the printer from root level on your PC and install the built-in drivers.
In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
Select your HP printer.
Select Uninstall.
In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
Click on Drivers tab.
Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
Select OK.
Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
Close Devices and Printers.
Refer this article to know more information about installing windows built-in drivers.
Also, try the steps recommended below.
After the uninstallation of the printer software install Deskjet 990c drivers from Devices and Printers on your PC and check if it helps.
Install the built-in print driver over a wireless or wired (Ethernet) network connection on a computer with Windows 10 or Windows 8.
Search Windows for devices, and then click Devices and Printers in the list of results.
Click Add a printer.
Select printer is not in the list, continue to the next step.
Click Next.
Select the port to be used by your printer, such as 'USB001' for a USB connected printer, and then click Next.
Click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to update.
Click HP, Hewlett-Packard, or Hewlett Packard in the Manufacturer pane select Deskjet 990C driver and click next to install the printer driver.
If the issue still persists after trying out the steps, it's time for you to upgrade your printer to a new one.

How do I get my HP 3300 out of the "offline" mode? Would getting out of "offline" activate the wireless ability of the 3300? We use this printer wirelessly from other devices in the house. That function just doesn't work on my laptop, which also has wireless capability.

I see that you were able to get the Printer back online. Are you able to print now?
If the Printer is connected to your wireless Network, then you can try assigning a Manual IP Address and check if that helps.
1) Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can print the Network configuration page to obtain the IP address.
2) Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
3) Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
4) Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
5) Click Manual IP
6) If you see a Suggest a Manual IP Address button, click Manual IP address, and the Manual IP addresses are automatically filled out for you.
7) If your page does not have a button to suggest a manual IP address, type the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway using the numbers shown in the report you printed.
Keep me posted
Thank you 🙂

I have the IP address...IPv4 Address and IPv4 Defaut Gateway address. I put both of them on the address bar. The first message was :
This site can’t be reached
192.168.1.xx refused to connect.
Try:
- Checking the connection
- Checking the proxy and the firewall

As you mentioned you are getting refused to connect error while assigning a manual IP to your printer.
Do you know what is your router IP address? Please configure it to match the router address range.
You need to access the gateway and check your settings, Info is in your router User Guide for your device.

Oh my, I so appreciate all of the possible solutions to my wireless connectivity between my laptop and my printer, nothing has worked so far. Each is on the network but they just won't talk to each other. I have tried all of the suggestions so far in this post and even found the HP Photosmart 3300(HP) and HP Photosmart 3300 (Microsoft) on the list and tried both to no avail.
Am I resigned to just plug in the USB cable to connect them and forget the wireless possibility? I have Windows 10 and Norton Security on my laptop, if that helps.
Thank you to all.

And, now my printer won't print even though I have it plugged in through a USB cable. I can't download drivers so I am reluctant to remove all of the HP 3000 printers from my Devices and Printers screen. I now need serious help.
Thank you.
