HP Photosmart 7520
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

This past week I tried to print a document, it did not print.  The paper came through without any print on it.  Ink cartridges are full.  Can't connect to HP Web Services. Followed every conceivable HP problem solving method and those suggested by this forum.  Once in awhile a blank sheet is ejected without a print request. Several times when requesting to print a document, it went to the FAX page.  Printer indicates it is on line with my router(Wireless).  PC indicates printer is on line.  Frustrated after 3 days!!

Today 3-3-2017, I found that I could print "pdf" documents from my Download File, but was a very light gray print

Hi @Papoon,

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.

  • Have you bypassed power strips?
  • Have you performed a hard reset on the printer?
  • Did you make a few copies directly from the printer to isolate the issue further?

First off, we need to isolate the issue to not being hardware related and eliminate all possible hardware issues.

as you seem to have a few issues with the printer.

Once we establish that the printer hardware is fully functional, then we should be able to address all of your issues.

Please make a few copies directly from the printer without any communication from the computer.

If it copies fine then we should be able to address the other problems.

Steps to make copies:

  • Please try to make a few copies directly from the printer without any intervention from the computer. Please place the required document face down on the flatbed scanner and touch the copy button. If it copies fine, then the issue could be software related.

If it copies fine then the issue could be software related. Otherwise, if you get faint prints, please contact Hp phone support to get the printer replaced or upgraded.

  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.

I tried making a copy in Black(Failed) then in Color(copied in color except for the Black ink).  I did a complete "Hard" removal and a reinstall with your site.  Web Service connected after I removed Proxy details.  The Printer that was setup is titled "FAX-HP Photosmart 7520  Series (Network).  When I wanted to print an Excel or Word document after I clicked the "print" icon it opened the Fax page.

Hi @Papoon,

I reviewed the post comprehensively. Great job and brilliant troubleshooting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

If it failed to copy in black the issue is hardware related. The printer has an issue. To be sure, please isolate the issue and try to make a few copies by replacing the black cartridge and check if it copies in black again. If it does not, then please contact HP phone support to get the printer replaced or serviced.

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

As far as the default printer being a fax printer let me ask you some questions please.

  • Did you follow the steps to uninstall the printer completely from my previous post?
  • Then did you download the latest printer software and also upgrade the printer firmware?
  • If you’ve not upgraded the printer firmware please do so from the same link sent in my previous post.

So make sure that the default printer is set as HP 7520 network or wireless depending on the listing shown in devices and printers. Please visit this link to make the network printer or wireless printer as the default printer. link: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/How-do-I-make-my-printer-default... This should do the trick for you. 🙂

Hi.

Two years after this post, it seems the same thing may have happened to me.

I have a 7520 and am running two Windows 10 (64) computers, one wired to the printer, the other connected wirelessly. Neither computer can print.

Part of the solution from two years ago contains:

“If it failed to copy in black the issue is hardware related. The printer has an issue. To be sure, please isolate the issue and try to make a few copies by replacing the black cartridge and check if it copies in black again. If it does not, then please contact HP phone support to get the printer replaced or serviced.”

I have not replaced the black cartridge because I bought it only last week and, in the time since then, I have printed a few pages, black text. However, I did remove the cartridge and reinserted it. Same result: blank page.

Another posted line:

“Please make a few copies directly from the printer without any communication from the computer.”

Tried this – didn’t work.

Turned printer power off, waited a minute or so, then turned it back on; no change.

Then for whatever reason, from Tools options, I selected Print Quality Report. Page printed nicely (color and black) with a noticeable exception: the color box for black is empty/white/no color. When I noticed this, I again removed and reinserted the black cartridge. Tried Print Quality Report a second time and got the same result.

I’m guessing that the result of the Print Quality Report is saying something.

Can you please help?

Thank you.
