Yes I know it's an old printer but it's been a reliable one for me up until now. But since I just bought new ink cartridges I think I'll use it for projects maybe other than photos, color photos . I do appreciate all your help and your advice thank you very much

Hello, @bkp51 – Hope you are well!

Thank you for joining the HP Forums! I read your post about the photo printing issue on your Envy printer. I am happy to look into this issue for you 🙂

Going through your post, I understand that you are facing print quality issues while printing on photo paper. This issue can also be caused due to the printer print settings on your PC.

While feeding the photo paper to the photo, you need to keep “Glossy” or print side facing down. Also, it is important to change the print settings before you print a photo. Check the settings mentioned below:

  1. Go to control panel - Devices and printers
  2. Right-click on your Photosmart and choose the "Printing preferences" option.
  3. Now, go to paper quality / layout tab and make sure the paper type is selected as "Photo paper".
  4. Also, select the correct paper size and save the settings.

Now, follow the steps mentioned to print the photo:

  • Open the picture using “Windows Photo Viewer” (You can right-click on the image and go to “Open with” to select the windows photo viewer app)
  • Change the paper size appropriately.
  • Also, change the paper type to “photo paper” before printing.

Please let me know whether that works for you or you need further assistance. Thank you!

Cheers 🙂

I will  certainly try that when I am printing from my computer, however the problem with the print quality remains the same when I try to print from a memory disc   That I insert right in the compartment on the printer it's self .  So the question remains with the ink cartridges.  How do you control the issue of a green hue when printing a photo?  The person in the picture it looks like he is a relative of Frankenstein .  Do I need to find the gray ink cartridge #99  to replace the black ink cartridge  and still use the photo cartridge which is number 97 and the tri color cartridge ?

..

Hello, @bkp51

The HP #99 is the photo black cartridge. The regular black is not used while printing the photos. Because photo black is usually used with the other colored inks to produce better tones and shades when you’re printing a photo and black ink is mainly used for printing text. Both black cartridges will sometimes be used when you’re printing pictures or documents in black and white to get better shades and to make images clearer.

Hence, it could be very much possible that the print quality issue (while printing photos) that you are facing is because the photo black is empty. Try replacing the cartridge and check.

I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!

Good luck 🙂

Actually all of the cartridges are new. So are you telling me to use the photo cartridge #99, tricolor #97 and gray #100? Does HP carry #100?

Hello, @bkp51

your printer needs 3 cartridges.

HP #99 - Photo black cartridge

HP #95 / #97 - Color cartridge

HP #94 / #96 - Black regular cartridge.

NB: HP #96 & #97 are the extra large cartridges for HP #94 & #95 cartridges respectively.

Let me know if that helps!

Cheers 🙂

Yes, I understand that and those are the ones that I have. But when using that combination I get a green tint to the photo. I read in the manual that instead of the black cartridge to use the #100 which is gray for the best quality.

Hello, @bkp51

Ideally, the cartridges that you have should work fine with the printer. HP #100 is same as HP #99. It is just an older version.

It looks like a hardware issue with the printer. Since this is a very old model printer, I'd suggest upgrading your printer. Also, you can contact the HP phone support to get further assistance or for a possible upgrade.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!

Good luck 🙂
