Since a short time I have a problem: Sometimes when printing there was the message on the display: "carriage stall" (German: "Schlitten blockiert...". This was 3-5 times and after pushing "OK" it worked again. But since yesterday it doesn`t.  There is nothing inside that blocks the carriage and I cleaned all the inner parts that are reachable. But there is always the same message. But the carriage is not blocked, it can be pushed to the left or to the right. When pushed "OK" after the message the printer makes the usual loud start-sounds but there is a new one in between, it`s short and not so loud, like a servo-motor.

Is there somebody who has had the same problem and what`s the solution? There is no HP support since 7 years. The printer is old, but maybe there is only a little thing to do...

Addition: The carriage does not go to the very left position so I cannot open the case of the printer heads (the case is on the upper rail which stops the carriage, i think the lower rail which would lead to the very left is the parking position?) And in the rear left I found a part of a little black plastic item like a broken cylinder with a gear on the outside.)

New addition:

I could push the carriage to very left side and to right side after a resistance and (now it`s at the lower rail). But I couldn`t see any part where the broken part could fit. Message is the same like before: "carriage stall" .

Hi @Tom1710

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the issue you are facing with the printer. This seems like a hardware issue with the print carriage. Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Also, perform step 1 from this document.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank You very much, but this does`t help.

These are 4 pictures of the broken part. Maybe someone can tell me if this part is the reason of the problem and how (if) it can be changed? There are the letters "PC" on it:

@Tom1710

This looks like a hardware issue, I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Thanks!
