Hi Everyone I'm new here. I searched and searched for a solution to my problem, but have been unable to find the answer.
I'm not sure if the lastest Windows update was the culprit or not!? The issue I have is I typed out some text in word, printed it out and some of the text was not printed gaps were left approximately 20mm apart for instance I had 20 numbered lines and line 2 part printed same with lines 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 & 18. I changed the font size to smaller and it did the same but with the lines totally missed out not partially printed.
I saved the document in pdf and it printed out every line totally.
I also saved it as a word doc. on a memory stick and plugged it into a friends computer and it printed out fine too.
Help me please before I start pulling my hair out !!

Well I have solved the problem!! "Sometimes it's the smallest things" This was niggling me so I thought I'd try it, I bought a new black cartridge installed it and Hey Presto!! prints perfectly!! Don't understand why it printed PDF docs okay but al least we have arrived at the end of our journey together. Thank you for all your time and effort in helping me, and hopefully this may help others with the same or similar problems!? ATB, Ian

Good day. Thank you for being a part of the HP community. I will gladly assist you. Superb diagnosis and great presentation of the issue. Kudos to you for that.
- Did you try printing multiple word documents?
Let's try these steps:
- Run all the latest Windows 10 updates and install them correctly on the computer.
- Run all the Microsoftorsoft office updates and install them correctly on the computer.
Now check if the issue gets fixed. if it continues, then try to disable UAC and check if it works by following these steps:
Here's how to turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off in Windows 10:
- Type UAC in the search field on your taskbar. (If the search field isn't visible, right-click the Start button and choose Search.)
- Click Change User Account Control settings in the search results.
- Then do one of the following:
- To turn UAC off, drag the slider down to Never notify and click OK.
- To turn UAC on, drag the slider up to the desired level of security and click OK.
- You may be prompted to confirm your selection or enter an administrator password.
- Reboot your computer for the change to take effect.
This should fix the issue.
Also if it prints from other word documents correctly, then the issue is with this one document and not other word documents or the printer. So you need to use the workaround that you thought of by saving it to a flash drive and printing from the flash drive.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Hi David,
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I tried changing the UAC (it was set at never) to the top setting, after this I don't know if this action prompted it, but, I had to rectify a fault with 'Office' it took a long time (apparently I have a slow connection) when it eventually re-installed? I tried again with the original doc. and another one I quickly typed in word and got the same result for both!? It's as if it's formatted to leave spaces and any text that happens to be in that position either doesn't print at all or, if it's changed to a larger font it's clipped so either the top or bottom gets left blank! (1st photo) I have uploaded three photos above the 3rd one with the simulated missing text also does not have the numbers printed either, The 2nd photo is as it looks on screen. Thanks

Thank you for the quick response. Your commendable efforts and patience are amply appreciated.
Let's try these steps to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers at the root level and check again.
- Perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-ink-tank-wireless-410-series/16180953/model/16180954/documen... perform steps from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer
- Then update the printer’s firmware by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c02919168
- Use a USB cable to update the printer’s firmware connecting it to a computer.
Then make 2 photocopies directly from the printer without any communication from the computer to isolate the issue correctly.
If it copies correctly without the top portion missing then uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers at the root level by following these steps:
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, in the control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
- Restart the PC again.
Then download the latest full feature driver from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-photosmart-c4380-all-in-one-printer-se... and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
This should fix it for you.
If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879
This should work for you.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Hi David, thanks for your reply,
1. Hard reset - tried it no difference
2. Update firmware - this was not an option [ on screen message - latest firmware installed ]
3. 2 Photo copies ( Brilliant idea ) this proved the problem is not word as it printed the same defective copy from an tntact one! So definitely HP printer driver?
4. Uninstalled and re-installed driver software, but could not find the original CD-Rom, so had to download drivers from the HP site.
Same result the original problem persists. Next step new printer probably!!?

I read the post comprehensively and your commendable efforts and terrific troubleshooting skills are greatly appreciated. It also great to have you back. Let's not throw in the towel yet.
Let's try these steps:
Uninstall the printer drivers at the root level by following directions from my previous post.
- Then create a new local user account as an administrator from this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/instantanswers/5de907f1-f8ba-4fd9-a89d-efd23fee918c/create-a-loc...
Log into the new user account after restarting your computer
- Then download and install the full feature printer drivers from the HP support site.
- This should fix the issue.
- Also, try the windows built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879
- Finally, back up your important data and reset windows to factory settings by following instructions from this link: http://support.hp.com/ca-en/document/c04742289
- Then download and install the printer drivers from the HP support site.
- This should take care of it for you.
If it persists, then a great app to use for windows 10 is HP SmartApp. Follow instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04675142 to download, install and use the app with relevant FAQs.
This should solve the printing problem.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
