Photosmart D7560
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

The problem: can't install Photosmart D7560 on new laptop, even though it's running exactly the same OS (Windows 7 Home 64-bit) as older desktop on which this inkjet installed successfully. (Unfortunately, at this point I can't remember anything about how I actually managed to accomplish that.)

Whenever I try to install the printer's Windows 7 drivers, I get an an error message saying that my laptop doesn't have the necessary USB support/USB hardware to install it. (I don't really know what this means-- my tech skills are marginal at best-- but it seems highly doubtful that this laptop somehow isn't up to the task of installing an inkjet.)

While there's a page on the HP site addressing the "A computer does not have the necessary USB software support" error display, these steps can't work for me because they center on deleting a file (usbready.exe) which doesn't even exist on my laptop in the first place.

I've also tried turning off User Account Control, and downloading the Windows 7 drivers using IE instead of Firefox, as well as using the D7560's drivers from my desktop (since they worked there).

BTW, all my installation attempts are being made from the laptop's administrator account (I'm its sole user).

And that's about where my limited computer resources run out; no idea what to do next.

If anyone understands what's going on here, and how to get this inkjet to install on my laptop, please let me know.

Thanks!

Hi,
Click the Start button and type %temp% into the search bar, then open the shown Temp folder.

Open the latest HP installation folder which begins with 7z (e.g. 7zs1234)
Open the Setup folder.
Locate the usbready.exe file and rename it into usbready.old.exe
Browse back to the main extraction folder (the folders who starts with 7z) and launch the Setup.exe file.

Now follow the installation and check for any difference.

Hi Shlomi,

Your advice worked: the D7650 is now installed on my laptop.

Thanks so much for your help (and for responding so quickly!).

Now, my only remaining questions are:

1.] Is it OK if I delete all those HP files in my laptop's Temp folder now?

2.] How do I: A) click the Kudos thumb, and B) mark your post as an Accepted Solution? 'Cause I really want to show my appreciation, but am stymied by being (as you are no doubt aware) so technologically-inept!

Regards,

AdriB
