HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, my printer keeps giving the error pick motor stalled whenever I try to print. As soon as I cancel the job the printer picks up a piece of paper and runs it through the printer bizarrely.

Model: HP officejet pro 8600 plus

I've tried all the things advised by HP, unplug, clean rollers etc but nothing helps.

Hi @tommo0007 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already tried some troubleshooting steps, but let's go through some additional suggestions:

  • Reset the printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 2-3 minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes a simple reset can resolve temporary issues.
  • Check for paper jams: Even if you've already checked, it's worth rechecking for any small shreds of paper or debris that might be causing the pick motor to stall. Make sure to check all accessible areas of the printer, including the input and output trays, as well as the rear access panel if applicable.
  • Inspect the pick rollers: Ensure that the pick rollers (the rubber rollers that pull the paper into the printer) are clean and free from any debris. You can use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to clean them. Also, check if the rollers are worn out and need replacement.
  • Update printer firmware: Sometimes, firmware updates can fix bugs or issues with printer functionality. Check HP's official website for any available firmware updates for your specific printer model and follow the instructions to install them. Update the firmware on an HP printer
  • Check paper settings: Ensure that the paper settings on the printer match the paper type and size you are using. Incorrect settings could cause the pick motor to stall while trying to feed the paper.
  • Inspect the pick motor assembly: If you're comfortable with it, you can open up the printer (make sure it's unplugged from the power source) and inspect the pick motor assembly for any visible signs of damage or obstruction. However, this step should be done with caution and preferably by someone with experience handling printers.

Hi,

Unfortunately I have tried all those suggestion's. The issue is when I get the fault and cancel the print job, the printer immediately picks up a piece of paper OUT OF THE TRAY and runs it through the printer!
