I just purchased an OfficeJet 6978. I signed up for Instant Ink and found out later today that I was going to have to print out a large number of pages for my daughters’ school. I bought a XL black cartridge, put it in and started printing. My instant ink account says I owe money for those pages, which is garbage... and I can't figure out how to stop it from counting.

This is ridiculous. I refuse to pay for printing pages with a toner cartridge that I just paid $50.00 for!

So here's the 'solution' I was given. Despite the fact that I purchased my own ink, I will still be charged for printing. The only option I have is to change my account to the maximum allotment for $15.00 a month, which is insane.

I then found out that as soon as I cancel my account, the printer will not allow my to print with the cartridges that CAME WITH THE PRINTER!

I am done. I'm returning the printer to the store. Good luck with your buisness model.

This is an absolutely outrageous scam and as usual, hp avoid accountability in the usual manner, with a fob off. I would urge customers to return their hp printers for refund. I would also urge that customers take to consumer websites such as Martin Lewis' moneysavingexpert.com, Which etc to alert potential hp customers to this blatant fraud.
