Power button, auto answer and "!" flashing.  Will not shut down. Only power cycles when pushing power button

The blinking/flashing lights represent a specific error on the printer, you should be able to identify what the error is using the blink code, to help you out, here's a link with the details on what each blink represents:

 

The lights on the front of the printer indicate the printer status. These lights can be on, off, or blinking (flashing), depending on the status of the printer. Blinking lights can indicate error conditions. They might also indicate that the printer is starting up, processing a print job, or charging batteries.

The solution this time was to reinstall driver software.  I will use the codes if the printer wants to misbehave again
