The "Magi Mags" tape is in no way visible or on show because it's inside, i.e. behind, the front door cover 😉

Absolutely brilliant solution.  Thank you.

Mine is in a downstairs office away from my bedroom, but when I first got the printer I thought the same thing, I don’t know why they wouldn’t have the option to turn it off seeing that it annoys so many, to put a piece of tape over it, yes that may work, but why should you have to do this on a new product??? At least give the option to turn it off, we don’t want to have to do something so stupid as putting a piece of tape over it, I know that I have mine set up to receive a fax, so every time I pick up the phone the printer acts as if I am I am sending something to print, then goes into sleep mode and starts blinking, I agree HP, you should give the option to have the blinking light turn off.

Hi JayUK10.

Unfortunately for the m477fdw the power button with the light sits flush with the cover.  I.e. the cover has a rectangular hole in it that is a little bigger than the button itself.  This means you cannot solve this by putting something inside.  I will replace my taped on piece of cardboard that still bleeds some light with a taped on small piece of aluminum foil tape that will absolutely block the light though it will sure look ugly.

So really the true solution is for HP to give a software option in the settings in their fancy touch screen user interface that says:

Flashing Standby Light:  YES (default)  NO

and you simply select the one you (the purchaser and user) wants.  Come on HP it's only 0 and 1s, its not hard and given that these are on a network can even be an OTA update.

You can tell this still annoys me after all this time. B

You sir, are a genius 👍🏻

As mentioned by someone else, just pop open the front cover (very easy) and put a piece of black tape on the button.  Electrical tape worked great.  When you close the cover, you don't notice a thing.  And no more annoying blink.
