The printer's power will not stay on. I notice the power cord now has some "play" where it connects to the back of the printer. I can jiggle the cord back and forth slightly, and when I do so the power light goes on and off. Sometimes (after jiggling) it will stay on; other times it won't. Both the power cord and printer appear undamaged, yet are not interfacing properly to keep the power on. Might replacing the power cord solve this problem or is it likely the printer is biting the dust?

HI @SunnySkies,
Good Day. Thank you for taking an interest in the HP community. I understand that you require assistance regarding issues with the printer not powering on correctly. I will be delighted to assist you here. Fabulous description and superb diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:
- Did this happen after a recent power outage or surge?
For now, let me keep you posted about a few things here.
- It is a hardware issue with either the power cord or the power port of the printer, whose prong could be loose and may not be establishing a firm connection unless the power cord is wiggled.
- It is difficult to isolate the issue on this platform between the power cord and the printer itself.
- Please contact HP phone support in this regard as they would assist you in real time to isolate the issue correctly. I am being honest about it by keeping your best interest in mind without beating around the bush.
- I am not recommending buying the power cord without contacting HP phone support only to find that the replacement cord also does not fire up the printer correctly. I am trying to assist you in the best possible manner here given the circumstances.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP
- Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
- Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
- Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
- Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a superb week ahead. 🙂

Thank you, DavidSMP, for your reply. No, there was no power surge or other one-time event preceding the power issue. This seems to have come about due to use of the printer. I am using it on 2 different computers, and the power cord and cables have been unplugged/detached and reconnected quite a bit. The printer is off warranty. I had tried to connect to a live person at HP tech support before posting to this forum, though when I entered the model and serial number on the HP website I was taken to a page that said my only option for help was the forum. I couldn't find any way to get to a live person. I assume this is because the unit is no longer covered by the warranty (it is several years old). I was hopeful that the link you provided would take me to a new contact page of some kind, though I find it takes me back to where I had been initially and I'm still finding no way to talk with HP phone support.
