Welcome to the HP Community --
I would guess the printer is not actively involved in cancelling the print job(s).
What? Printer is generally not aware of what it is printing -- it does have to have possession of the print job data before the printer can do anything with that data, including printing, mangling, or rejecting the job.
If you think the printer is involved in the problem, you could try the Printer Reset --
Essentially,
While the printer is still switched ON,
Unplug the printer for about a minute (a bit longer if you can stand it)
Plug the printer into a regular wall socket
If the printer does not boot, press the start button
Wait interminably for the printer to completely boot and go through all it's self checks.
Try your job(s) again...

I might not understand the quotes in context of the description.
Windows
"Cancels" immediately might mean there are folder permission problems in the Temp folder where the print job is first placed - and before the print data is sent over to the printer.
Not precisely related, but can perhaps look the same from the outside looking in -- Print Services might be stuck or hung. Also related to Print Services are the print service folders.
What you can do is generally less complicated than trying to explain where the source of the problem is located....

Jobs in Print Queue Disappear
Temp Folder Permissions
If the print job is making its way to the print queue and then disappearing,
Check / Correct the folder permission(s)
Temp folder requires full permissions, including Read / Write, for current user
Check / add / edit permissions for user (current login) on Temp folders

Windows - Print Job Stuck in Queue
Cancel Print / Resume Print / Print Service Reset / Rebuild Queue / Temp Folder
----------------------
Cancel Print Job
On those printers where the option is supported,
If you catch the job quickly enough, print jobs can normally be cancelled on the printer.
The “cancel” button might be labeled as such or might present as a red X on the printer control screen.
NOTE: Where supported at all, it is normal for the “X” to display on the printer control panel only briefly.
What happens next?
Once the job is turned over to the print service, cancel the job in the print queue on the computer

Print Queue / Print Service Reset
After a print job has been accepted, it is turned over the Windows Print Services for completion.
When a job is "stuck in the queue", it is sometimes due to Print Services being stuck or otherwise “broken”.
If the job is accepted and quickly disappears, it is perhaps due to incorrect Temp folder permissions.
