I use Quicken Home and Business 2015 to print my checks.  They are 3 to a page.  The printer has no problem printing when I put a full sheet of checks in the tray, however, when there are 2 or one on that sheet, it will not print.  Other than using the "tape it to a sheet of paper" trick, how do I get the printer to print them out?

I am printing from a Desktop with Windows 10 connected with a USB.  This printer is a replacement for an older version of HP Printer that DID print single and double check sheets............what's the deal?????

Hello @blondiebabe,

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are trying to print single cheques. I would like to help you.

I am not trained on 3rd Party Software, but I did across these steps that you can try:

Don't change Paper Types or Sizes at the printer. The QB program manages all of this.

Leave your printer set to Regular paper. That is what the Check stock is = regular sized paper.

You set QB, in File menu > Printer Setup, Checks/Paychecks. Select the paper check stock you bought.

If you are using either of the Multi-check per page options:

Set the Partial Page, such as "single check to the side" or "single check in the center" to match your Envelope Feeder. But you are not printing Envelopes, so change NOTHING at the printer. It is just a Position setting.

And of course, a short page might be One check or Two Checks, so:

When you print checks, every time, you still Confirm if this round is a full page or partial page, and if partial page then how many on the first page, and confirm that this first "short page" is being fed correctly per that setting. Confirm this when using Print, specifically, not from Printer Setup but from that Print dialog, each time.

If you have further issues, please contact Quicken for more support.

You can click on the "Accept as Solution" if the issue is resolved and the "Thumbs Up" for my effort. Please keep me posted. Good Luck!

I am having the identical problem.  Its not QuickBooks that has the problem.  Other printers print the single check with no problem, same settings.  The printer is trying to feed the short single check, then faults because it is apparently expecting a full 8 1/2 x 11 page.  I repeat, it is NOT a QB setting problem, it is the printer!  Any additional suggestions?

I had already done all the suggestions you offered and it does not work.  The problem is not with QB, it is with the printer, if I tape either one check or two on the page checks to a sheet of paper it will go thru like a charm, but try to get them to go thru on their own-----no way.  Are you sure it's not a matter of settings in the printer?, telling it I have a different size piece of paper going thru there?

I'm glad I'm not the only one going bonkers with this problem.  Do you know of a way to change the paper size to accept 1 or 2 checks going thru there?

I just spent 2 hours with HP tech support. I believe the problem to be a physical limitation of my 8720 printer. A single check measures 8 1/2" x 4" and gets hung up in the back of the printer. I asked what the spec is for the minimum length that will feed through the paper path, they told me 5". Duh! Mine will sometimes feed 2, but 1 gets hung up. If you check the HP forums, several models are having this problem. I suggested they determine for themselves if this is a mechanical limitation of the newer printers. If so they need to let their tech people know, and quit sending customers to Quick Books to resolve. I'm just sayin...

So the "tape the check/checks to a sheet of copy paper" is the only option to get them printed.  Great!!!.....I wish my old HP printer had not konked out on me.  Newer is NOT always better.  Thanks for spending the 2 hours with tech support anyway WKS_LSU so now I don't have to......

I upgraded my HP P2055 to a HP M506 and had the problem trying to print partial checks from  Quickbooks.  I have 3 to a page standard checks.  Everything worked fine with HP P2055.
SOLUTION:  1).  Added a new printer in Windows 10 manually.  I selected the HP P2055 driver and selected the same port that my HP M506 is located on.  I named the printer "QB Check Printer M506".  2). In QuickBooks printer setup I selected the "QB Check Printer M506" for "Check/PayCheck".   Problem Solved.
The problem was not the hardware or settings in the printer.  It was the print driver.  Fortunately my new HP printer worked with my old  HP printer's Print Driver.
I drew lines on some blank paper to look like my checks and cut them to be used as 1 and 2 partial sample checks.  I opened a sample company Quickbooks and started printing sample checks to make sure I knew how to feed the real checks and verify this new print setup would work.  For 2 checks, I feed them face up, top of check towards the printer.  For 1 check,  I feed it "Center" check number towards the printer.  I answer the question about the tear strip when it starts to print "yes" or "no" depending on the check I am using.

I am so glad to see this thread.  I just bought the HP OfficeJet 8710.  The HP Service representative was totally dismissive of me and told me to call QuickBooks.  I have owned HP Printers for about 15 years.  My previous 2 or 3 generations of Photosmart worked fine.  But immediately with the OfficeJet 8710, I get an error on the printer if an incomplete paper size is fed (holding 1 or 2 checks).

How can you efficiently run a home business with a printer like this?  I think HP deserves multiple negative reviews on other web sites.  It's one thing to have a printer with an internal problem.  But to have customer service not admit they *might* have an issue and to blow off long-time customers.  Absurd.

Hey HPKen, I totally agree, after talking to some foreign support agent for what seemed like and eternity (at midnight) they sent me a replacement 8720, it just did the same thing.  Someone on this thread said it's the paper size that causes the glitch.  The  machine cannot recognize the smaller size.  I gave up, I use a workaround.  I tape the 1-2 checks onto a full sheet (8.5X11) of copy paper and it goes thru like a charm.  Ridiculous I have to do this but I'm stuck with the printer now.  Wish I could be of more help........
