This is a known problem with all new HP printer Drivers. I installed a driver for my old printer Office jet Pro 8500 on my new printer Office jet Pro 8715 and I was able to print a single check. This is a HP problem and we must make them fix it or stop buying their printers.

What steps did you take to overwrite the drivers?  Related, can I install an old driver for a random printer that I don't own, and how would I know which is the best driver to pick?

I used a USB cable and did a New driver option. I open the HP list of printers and used the same driver I had on my old printer (Pro 8500), new printer was a Pro 8715.
my guess is the Pro 8500 driver will work on your Pro 8720. I did not check out all the printer functions but it did fix the Quicken problem. You may have to to a Windows driver update to get the driver or download it.

I will not be able to test these printer settings for awhile.  I can't risk breaking something else.  I'm anxious to follow this thread in case someone else has a success.

I worked with HP and the last answer was we will NOT fix our drivers. This tells me, DONE NOT BUY HP Printers, if you want HP suppot for your printers with Quiken or Quickbooks. This see very simply for me, I will never buy an other HP printer. I do not know why they want to loose al the Qicken and Quickbook customers. When my the current printer runs out of ink i will thro it away.

I am taping a single check to a sheet of paper and printing, so far it's working.  Just takes more time than I should have to spend.
