So for a while our printer only printed faint blue cyan when we tried to print black, and we stopped using it for a while. Recently I decided to look into the issue to try to fix it. According to the HP app the cartridges are full, so I tried to use a method to soak the cartridges in alcohol for a few hours and it actually seemed to work! However after about 4-5 pages they went back to only printing faded blue cyan, and even that faded more and more with each page.

Ink cartridges are expensive so I’m wondering if anyone knows if there’s a more permanent solution or if I should just bite the bullet and get new ones.

@Zouland, Welcome to HP Support Community!

If you have already performed the steps from the document  Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Photosmart C4600 and C4700 All-in-One Printer Series and the issue persists, it could be a hardware failure.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Hope this helps!
